Deformation twinning plays an important role in deformation processes of hexagonal-close-packed (hcp) metals. The relatively new technique, time-of-flight (TOF) neutron Bragg-edge transmission (BET) imaging, is a non-destructive investigation method to quantitatively visualise the two-dimensional (2D) distribution of the microstructure. For deepening the understanding of the deformation twin mechanisms, we conducted the BET imaging experiment to quantify the deformation of magnesium (Mg) and its alloy, respectively. Compressions of the rectangular-shaped samples were carried out using a loading machine with different strain. The pulsed neutron transmission imaging experiments were performed at BL22 RADEN of Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (MLF/J-PARC). The detailed results will be presented at the conference.
