Development of innovative nuclear systems in Japan

Nuclear energy can be utilized not only in power generation but also in heat utilization and hydrogen production. And, its next generation (Generation-IV) system has advantages in effective use of uranium and reduction of potential toxicity of radioactive waste and issues on cost competitiveness and harmonization with renewable energy utilization. With the target of its deployment in the latter half of this century, Generation-IV system development is being carried out in Japan. In 2019, Next Energy X Innovation Promotion (NEXIP) project was launched to support private sectors developing safe and economical innovative nuclear systems.
