Thermophysical properties of sodium-concrete reaction products in severe accident of sodium-cooled fast reactor

Kawaguchi, Munemichi

During the melt-through sequence of core-disruptive accidents in sodium-cooled fast reactors, sodium coolant with molten core debris can be released onto the reactor vessel room, leading to reaction of the base-mat concrete. The steel liner was usually set on the base-mat, but the decay heat of the molten core debris may damage the steel liner. In the assumption, the reaction products caused by the sodium-concrete reaction (SCR) would cover the core debris, and prevent from the heat dissipation of the core debris. In this study, the thermal properties of the SCR products such as the melting point and thermal conductivity which are important to the consequence were investigated.
