For continuous enhancement of nuclear safety; Personal research history and overview of Nuclear Safety Research Center of JAEA

Nakatsuka, Toru

The speaker's research was originally on advanced reactors, such as supercritical water-cooled reactor, reduced-moderation water reactor and high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. Following the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS), he has been working for the Nuclear Safety Research Center (NSRC). He is currently engaged in investigation of graded approach for the safety of nuclear facilities and in promotion of international collaboration on nuclear safety. One of the recent activities of NSRC is operating the OECD/NEA's "Analysis of Information from Reactor Buildings (RBs) and Containment Vessels (CVs) of FDNPS (ARC-F)" project. Objectives of the project are to consolidate experts' viewpoints that contribute to deeper understanding of the accident progression and status inside RBs and CVs, with analyzing information from the FDNPS and related programs, and to provide a function for sharing the information between Japanese organizations and international experts.
