Efforts to develop human resource development for nuclear energy in Japan and abroad at Tsuruga Comprehensive Research and Development Center

Irie, Tsutomu

In order to establish a base in Fukui to support research and development of fast reactors and human resource development, various human resource development activities of the Tsuruga Comprehensive Research and Development Center are reported. In the area of international nuclear human resources, we are accepting trainees from Asian countries that are planning to introduce nuclear power generation and international students studying nuclear power. We are also collaborating with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) through the Sodium School. In the area of human resource development in cooperation with local universities and companies, students from the University of Fukui and Fukui University of Technology use the facilities of JAEA in various ways, and JAEA staff members cooperate in university classes. We also provide training using the Fukui Smart Decommissioning Technology Demonstration Base (Sumadeco) and sodium handling and maintenance training facilities. As part of our efforts to prepare children for the future, we provide a wide range of educational support to elementary, junior high and high schools in Fukui Prefecture, and work to encourage children to become interested in science, energy and nuclear power. JAEA will continue to make effective use of the unique facilities and human resources in the Tsuruga area to promote the development of nuclear human resources in Japan and abroad, and to foster experts in nuclear energy in cooperation with local universities and companies.
