Modeling of dislocation loop in steels; Current status and problems of molecular dynamics simulation

Suzudo, Tomoaki

Hardening due to dislocation loop formation is considered to be one of the main causes of irradiation embrittlement of steels in nuclear applications. Recently, WB-STEM is used to observe small dislocation loops in order to understand the phenomenon. However, the time scale of the phenomenon in question is very small, and even if the static state can be grasped by experimental observation, the dynamic nature cannot be understood. Therefore, it is important to interpolate the experimental observations by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. In this presentation, I will discuss the current status and future prospects of dislocation loop modeling.
