Developments of a nuclear and radioactive material survey system for major public events

Koizumi, Mitsuo ; Takahashi, Tone; Kimura, Yoshiki

Advancement of the ability of watching nuclear explosive devices or radiological dispersal devices (so-called dirty bomb) in a public space would minimize the risk of nuclear terrorism. The JAEA is conducting a development of radiation detector systems equipped with peripheral technologies such as localization, networking, and remote controlling. An artificial intelligent (AI) program is also under development to eliminate false alert from an obtained gamma-ray spectrum. A pulse-shape-discrimination capable fast neutron detector system is being tested to perform effective neutron source survey. The status of the developments is presented.
