Development of a downsized AMS system at JAEA-AMS-TONO

Fujita, Natsuko   ; Matsubara, Akihiro*; Jinno, Satoshi   ; Kimura, Kenji

The downsized AMS is about 2 m $$times$$ 2 m in size and is used to demonstrate a new method1) of separating C-14 from the same mass molecules that would interfere with the AMS measurement of carbon-14 using surface channeling. This development is expected to lead to the widespread use of C-14 for the measurement of biomass in plastic products and C-14 concentration in biological samples for pharmaceutical development, as well as the realization of in-situ measurement in field surveys for geological and environmental studies. This will encourage rapid expansion of the AMS community.
