Measurements of double-differential cross sections of the Al(p,xp) reaction for 400 MeV - 3 GeV protons, 4; Derivation of double differential cross section for 400 MeV protons

Meigo, Shinichiro   ; Yamaguchi, Yuji   ; Iwamoto, Hiroki

The use of protons in the energy range from several hundred MeV to GeV is necessary to measure the response of charged-particle detectors for onboard satellites in space development projects. Few accelerator facilities worldwide can supply protons in the energy region above 400 MeV, and J-PARC is the only one in Japan. However, since it is difficult for J-PARC to supply protons to users, we have been developing a method to use scattered protons in the Al window. For high-intensity proton accelerator facilities, such as the Accelerator-Driven System (ADS), the improvement of the intranuclear cascade model (INC) is crucial. In order to improve the accuracy of the INC, the Al(p,xp) cross section was obtained using a plastic scintillator in the outgoing energy region above 170 MeV.
