Radiocesium mobility in the environment after the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident; $$^{137}$$Cs and $$^{14}$$C in freshwater fish (Masu trout) 7 years after the accident: Comparison of wild fish and farmed fish

The accident at the Fukushima Dai-chi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) in March 2011 released large amount of radionuclides into the environment. Although many studies have been conducted on the effects of accident-derived radiocesium ($$^{137}$$Cs) on terrestrial ecosystems, there is little information on radiocarbon ($$^{14}$$C). To evaluate the long-term radiation effects of these radionuclides on freshwater ecosystems, we investigated $$^{137}$$Cs and $$^{14}$$C concentrations in freshwater fish, Masu trout (Oncorhynchus masou), in the highly contaminated area seven years after the FDNPP accident.
