Towards a sustainable society, there is a global need to secure the energy necessary for stability and development and to make society carbon-neutral at the same time. Although various methods of nuclear energy utilization are envisaged, several issues are also to be solved regarding the sustainability of the use of nuclear energy itself. The present study summarizes the challenges of LWR fuel cycle, and management for the effective utilization of actinides such as plutonium and minor actinides as nuclear fuel material is introduced for sustainable nuclear energy utilization.
