In the process of decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, a variety of radioactive wastes have been generated. As part of a national project in Japan, the exploration of cementation with solidification materials for waste management is underway. Alkali-activated materials (AAMs) are particularly significant in this context because they can be manufactured at room temperature and are highly effective at immobilizing radioactive materials. This project focusses on the application of potassium-based AAMs (K-AAMs) enhanced with boron to improve neutron absorption properties. The study investigates how the addition of boric acid affects the physical properties of K-AAMs and aims to optimize their performance for effective nuclear waste management.
