Study on occurrence condition of extremely large sloshing load in cylindrical tanks

During an earthquake, sloshing occurs in a cylindrical tank when a frequency component close to the natural frequency of sloshing is included in the seismic wave. When high amplitude sloshing occurs, the liquid surface collides with the roof of the tank. In the tank design, it is important to evaluate the sloshing load acting on the roof. This paper introduces not only the above formula but also the method which can replace the seismic wave excitation with the equivalent sinusoidal wave excitation in consideration of the extremely large load.
