A chemical analysis was conducted on fuel debris sample obtained from the first trial retrieval inside the pedestal of Unit 2 of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which was received in the Nuclear Science Research Institute, JAEA. The debris sample was decomposed and dissolved via alkaline fusion with sodium peroxide after pulverization and homogenization. Elemental composition and nuclide composition (gamma-ray nuclides, Am, and Cm) of fuel debris sample were analyzed by ICP-AES and alpha- and gamma-ray spectrometers.
