The Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation, Nuclear Security and Human Resource Development of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (ISCN/JAEA) has conducted more than 200 training courses aiming at strengthening nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security since its establishment in 2010. Their features are the needs-oriented approach, interactivity, and practicality so that they are highly effective. As a part of these activities, ISCN has developed the Physical Protection Exercise Field (PPEF) and the Virtual Reality (VR) system, which are training tools for implementing experience-oriented and interactive lessons. These two facilities initiated its full-scale operation from JFY 2012. Then, in JFY2023, ISCN made a major upgrade of the PPEF to meet recent training needs. The new PPEF, called ISCN Exercise Field, equips new housings holding 1) Physical Protection (PP) Exercise Building including upgraded mock-Central Alarm Station, and 2) VR Exercise Building.
