Effect of anion species on bismuth underpotential deposition in imidazolium-based ionic liquids

田村 和久

Tamura, Kazuhisa

The Bi UPD reaction was investigated in ILs with a common cation, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium, using electrochemical measurements, visible light reflectance, and surface X-ray diffraction to compare the cyclic voltammograms (CVs), the in-plane structure of the Bi UPD layer, and the Au(111) electrode surface structure. The results showed that the characteristics of the UPD reaction were strongly correlated with the IL's donor number (DN), an index of solvation strength, rather than the electrode surface structure, which reflects the state of interaction between the electrode surface and ILs.
