Study on methods for verifying the effectiveness of cleansing agents used in body radiological decontamination, 1; Proposal of decontamination methods based on literature review

When external body contamination occurs, decontamination using alcohol wipes or detergents has been empirically applied, but systematic evaluation incorporating recent cleaning technologies remains limited. Studies using commercial cleaning agents or nanobubble showers with simulated contamination and pig skin revealed challenges such as discrepancies from actual contamination and variability in efficiency due to surface conditions. This study aims to establish a verification method for selecting effective decontamination procedures and agents according to contamination characteristics. Field interviews at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F) and a literature review on decontamination mechanisms were conducted. Based on these findings, decontamination methods were organized by contamination characteristics, and, referring to ALPS-related contamination cases at 1F, specific procedures were proposed for Cs-137 and Sr-90/Y-90 according to contamination type.
