In-situ measurement of "Radioactive and Elemental" aerosol size distributions for 1F decommissioning support

Laffolley, H.; Tsubota, Yoichi

The retrieval of fuel debris at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) requires high-fidelity monitoring of airborne particles. This study focuses on the development and validation of an in-situ aerosol measurement system that provides real-time data on both radioactivity and elemental composition across different size fractions. By integrating a multi-stage virtual impactor with real-time detection technologies, we demonstrate the capability to characterize complex aerosols generated during decommissioning tasks. Experimental results from laboratory tests confirm the system's efficiency in separating particles into targeted size ranges ($$<$$1 $$mu$$m, 1$$sim$$10 $$mu$$m, $$>$$10 $$mu$$m) and its robustness for on-site application.
