At the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS), accurate detection of $$^{90}$$Sr/$$^{90}$$Y is essential for radiation protection of workers and radioactive waste classification. To address this, we developed a Cherenkov counter type survey meter using a liquid light guide (LLG) as the radiation sensor. When a beta particle enters the LLG, Cherenkov photons propagate to both ends. By measuring the time difference between the two signals from the PMTs at both ends, we identified characteristic patterns distinguishing high-energy beta particles from $$^{90}$$Sr/$$^{90}$$Y against gamma-induced Compton electrons. An on-site survey at the FDNPS confirmed the feasibility of in-situ $$^{90}$$Sr/$$^{90}$$Y detection for decommissioning.
