Multi-axis atom-probe tomography of $$alpha^{prime}$$ precipitation in Fe-Cr-Al alloys; Thermal aging, ion irradiation, and pre-aging effects

Abe, Yosuke  ; Sasaki, Taisuke*; Yamashita, Shinichiro   ; Okubo, Nariaki   ; Ukai, Shigeharu

Cr-rich $$alpha^{prime}$$ precipitation drives irradiation embrittlement of Fe-Cr-Al accident-tolerant fuel (ATF) cladding. Multi-axis atom-probe tomography on Fe-17.5Cr-$$x$$Al ($$x = 0, 3, 8$$~wt.%) was performed under thermal aging, ion irradiation, and post-aging irradiation, and interpreted within a newly constructed low-temperature-anchored Fe-Cr-Al ternary thermodynamic database. We identify (i)~a $$sim 10$$~at.% shift between the aging and irradiation hardening-peak Al compositions at $$350~^{circ}$$C, (ii)~an Al-dependent growth response of pre-aged $$alpha^{prime}$$ under subsequent irradiation, and (iii)~a (Cr+Al) compositional sum rule in $$alpha^{prime}$$. These multi-axis benchmarks target ternary-extended phase-field models that explicitly couple vacancy transport with local Al concentration.
