The $$beta$$ decay of $$^{136,137,138}$$Sn was investigated at RIBF, RIKEN. For $$^{137}$$Sb the first information on excited states was obtained. In the case of $$^{136}$$Sb and $$^{138}$$Sb, new gamma-rays were observed. The new experimental results, in combination with state-of-the-art shell-model calculations, provide the first information on the evolution of the 0g$$_{7/2}$$and 1d$$_{5/2}$$ proton single-particle states with increasing neutron number beyond $$N$$=84.

The isotopes $$^{125}$$Pd and $$^{127}$$Pd, respectively with 79 and 81 neutrons, are key isotopes to understand the evolution of the N=82 shell closure below $$^{208}$$Pd. These nuclei were studied at RIBF (RIKEN). New isomeric states with half-lives of 144(4) ns and 39(6) $$mu$$s were assigned spins and parities of (23/2$$^+$$) and (19/2$$^+$$) in $$^{125}$$Pd and $$^{127}$$Pd, respectively. The assignment was carried out based on the results of the $$gamma$$-ray intensity balance analysis and the measured transition strengths with the aid of a shell-model calculation. The isomoer in $$^{125}$$Pd was ascribed predominantly to three neutron-hole excitations in the N=50-82 shell. The 19/2$$^+$$ state in $$^{127}$$Pd is expected to involve the coupling of proton and neutron configurations. The new data will provide important benchmarks for a better understanding of $$r$$-process nucleosynthesis.

We present measurements of the transverse-momentum dependence of elliptic flow $$v_2$$ for identified pions and (anti)protons at midrapidity ($$|eta|<0.35$$), in 0% - 5% central $$p$$ + Au and $$^3$$He + Au collisions at $$sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$$ = 200 GeV. When taken together with previously published measurements in $$d$$ + Au collisions at $$sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$$ = 200 GeV, the results cover a broad range of small-collision-system multiplicities and intrinsic initial geometries. We observe a clear mass-dependent splitting of $$v_2(p_{T})$$ in $$d$$ + Au and $$^3$$He + Au collisions, just as in large nucleus-nucleus ($$A$$ + $$A$$) collisions, and a smaller splitting in $$p$$ + Au collisions. Both hydrodynamic and transport model calculations successfully describe the data at low $$p_T$$ ($$< 1.5$$ GeV/$$c$$), but fail to describe various features at higher $$p_T$$. In all systems, the $$v_2$$ values follow an approximate quark-number scaling as a function of the hadron transverse kinetic energy per constituent quark($$KE_T/n_q$$), which was also seen previously in $$A$$ + $$A$$ collisions.

Jet production rates are measured in $$p+p$$ and $$d+$$Au collisions at $$sqrt{s_{NN}}$$ = 200 GeV recorded in 2008 with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Jets are reconstructed using the $$R$$ =0.3 anti-$$k_t$$ algorithm from energy deposits in the electromagnetic calorimeter and charged tracks in multiwire proportional chambers, and the jet transverse momentum ($$p_T$$) spectra are corrected for the detector response. Spectra are reported for jets with $$12 < p_T < 50$$ GeV/$$c$$ within a pseudorapidity acceptance of $$|eta|<0.3$$. The nuclear-modification factor ($$R_{d{rm Au}}$$) values and central-to-peripheral ratios ($$R_{CP}$$) show large, $$p_T$$-dependent deviations from unity, challenging the conventional models that relate hard-process rates and soft-particle production in collisions involving nuclei.

The PHENIX Collaboration has measured $$phi$$ meson production in $$d$$ + Au collisions at $$sqrt{s_{NN}}$$ = 200 GeV using the dimuon and dielectron decay channels. The $$phi$$ meson is measured in the forward (backward) $$d$$-going (Au-going) direction, $$1.2 < y < 2.2$$ $$(-2.2 < y < -1.2)$$ in the transverse-momentum ($$p_T$$) range from 1-7 GeV/$$c$$ and at midrapidity $$|y| < 0.35$$ in the $$p_T$$ range below 7 GeV/$$c$$. The $$phi$$ meson invariant yields and nuclear-modification factors as a function of $$p_T$$, rapidity, and centrality are reported. An enhancement of $$phi$$ meson production is observed in the Au-going direction, while suppression is seen in the $$d$$-going direction, and no modification is observed at midrapidity relative to the yield in $$p+p$$ collisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. Similar behavior was previously observed for inclusive charged hadrons and open heavy flavor, indicating similar cold-nuclear-matter effects.

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the centrality dependence of the direct photon yield from Au+Au collisions at $$sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$$ GeV down to $$p_T < 0.4 ;{rm GeV}/c$$. Photons are detected via photon conversions to $$e^+e^-$$ pairs and an improved technique is applied that minimizes the systematic uncertainties that usually limit direct photon measurements, in particular at low $$p_T$$. We find an excess of direct photons above the $$N_{rm coll}$$-scaled yield measured in $$p+p$$ collisions. This excess yield is well described by an exponential distribution with an inverse slope of about 240 MeV/$$c$$ in the $$p_T$$ range 0.6-2.0 GeV/$$c$$. While the shape of the $$p_T$$ distribution is independent of centrality within the experimental uncertainties, the yield increases rapidly with increasing centrality, scaling approximately with $$N_{rm part}^{alpha}$$, where $$alpha = 1.38 pm 0.03({rm stat}) pm 0.07({rm syst})$$.
