Correlations between accelerated MeV protons and electrons are experimentally investigated at laser intensities in the range, 10 - 10 W/cm with -polarization. Observed proton maximum energies are linearly proportional to the electron slope temperatures with a scaling coefficient of about 10. Experimental results also indicate that, in the context of the simple analytical fluid model for transverse normal sheath acceleration, the ion (proton) density is comparable to density of the hot electron cloud near the target rear surface if an empirical acceleration time is assumed.
