In thermochemical water-splitting hydrogen production, IS process, HI concentration with an ion-exchange membrane is the key operation for the achievement of the high process efficiency. Proton permeability of the membrane dominates the consumption energy for HI concentration. In this study, the HI-I-HO mixture concentration dependence of the proton conductivity which is the index of the proton permeability was investigated by using our developing radiation grafted membrane. The analysis of results based on our permeation model showed that the concentration dependence of H diffusion coefficient in the ion exchange membrane could mainly govern that of proton conductivity. This suggests that the enhancement of H diffusivity might achieve the higher proton conductivity.
