2017年4月に開催された国際会議Transport2017において、重イオン核反応モデルの国際的な比較が議論された。重イオン加速器の安全評価や宇宙飛行士の被ばく評価等で重要な役割を果たすため、世界中で重イオン核反応の様々な理論モデルが開発されている。本研究はモデル間の共通点と差異を明らかにし、各モデルの問題点を明らかにした。比較において、辺の長さが20fmの直方体に320個の中性子と320個の陽子をランダム配置し、それらが時間発展に伴って起こす散乱の回数や散乱時のエネルギーなどを計算する条件が設定された。また、結果以外にも、理論モデルを構成するアルゴリズムについても比較を行った。発表者は重イオン核反応モデルJQMD(JAERI Quantum Molecular Dynamics)を用いて計算を行い、世界で開発されている15の計算コードによる計算結果と比較した。コードアルゴリズムの比較では、JQMDは必ず陽子から 優先的に衝突確率を計算し、その後に中性子の衝突を計算するため、物理描像の妥当性が指摘された。一方、JQMDは他のモデルとほぼ同じ計算結果を出すことも判明した。衝突回数や運動量の計算値が平均から2倍以上乖離するモデルもある中で、JQMDは本計算条件で安定した性能を発揮することが確認された。

This paper introduces super absorbent polymer valves and colorimetric sensing reagents as enabling components of soft, skin-mounted microfluidic devices designed to capture, store and chemically analyze sweat released from eccrine glands. The valving technology enables robust means for guiding the flow of sweat from an inlet location into a collection of isolated reservoirs, in a well-defined sequence. Analysis in these reservoirs involves a color responsive indicator of chloride concentration with a formulation tailored to offer stable operation with sensitivity optimized for the relevant physiological range. Evaluations on human subjects with comparisons against ex situ analysis illustrate the practical utility of these advances.

Low-lying states in neutron-rich $$^{81,82.83.84}$$Zn nuclei were measured for the first time via in-beam $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy at RIKEN. These include the 4$$_1^+$$ to 2$$_1^+$$ in $$^{82}$$Zn and the 2$$_1^+$$ to 0$$_1^+$$ and 4$$_1^+$$ to 2$$_1^+$$ in $$^{84}$$Zn. The reduced E($$2^+$$) energies and increased E(4$$^+$$)/E(2$$^+$$) ratios at $$N$$=52,54 compared to $$^{80}$$Zn attest that the magicity is confined just on the neutron number $$N$$=50 only. The levels observed in $$^{84}$$Zn suggest the onset of deformation towards heavier Zn isotopes. The data were compared to state-of-the-art shell model calculations.

広く普及している4つの放射線挙動解析コードGEANT4, FLUKA, MCNPX及びPHITSについて、ペンシルビーム照射条件により陽子治療計画への適用性を検証した。最初の条件として、水ファントムへの単色陽子照射を仮定し、各コードによる深度線量曲線の積分値(IDDCs)を比較した。2つ目のケースとして、エネルギーが分布する陽子ビーム照射に関するIDDCsを検証した。これらの結果は、米国ニュージャージのProCure陽子治療センターにおける実験結果と比較した。実測値に対する各コードによる結果は一定でなく、ファントム中の浅い領域やBraggピーク付近で線量の計算値で差が生じることを確認した。この他、3つ目ケースとして、拡大ブラッグピーク(SOBP)の調査を進めている。

The first $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy of very neutron rich $$^{98,100}$$Kr isotopes was carried out at the RIBF at RIKEN Nishina center. Excited states in these isotopes were populated via (p,2p) reactions using radioactive $$^{99,101}$$Rb beams accelerated to 220 MeV/nucleon. The new data show a significant increase in deformation beyond N=60, as well as competing configurations (shape-coexistence) at low energy. The data were compared with beyond-mean-field calculations which predict level energies in good agreement with observation, and suggest oblate-prolate shape coexistence.

Neutron-rich isotopes of selenium, $$^{88,90,92,94}$$Se, where studied via in beam $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy after nucleon removal reactions at RIBF in RIKEN. The low-energy excitations of these nuclei were investigated using $$gamma$$-$$gamma$$ coincidences, and the first and second excited 2$$^+$$ states were found at remarkably low energies. The analysis and comparison with self-consistent beyond-mean field calculations suggest that both shape coexistence and triaxiality are needed to describe these isotopes.

The first measurement of $$gamma$$ rays emitted by the very neutron rich nuclei $$^{112}$$Mo (Z=42) and $$^{110}$$Zr (Z=40) was carried out at the RIBF facility at RIKEN. These data shine light on the postulated N=70 harmonic oscillator shell. If the spin-orbit splitting which gives rise to the N=82 shell gap is reduced in very neutron-rich nuclei, the harmonic oscillator gap at N=70 should open instead. However, both the measured energy of the first excited state $$^{112}$$Mo and $$^{110}$$Zr, respectively 235(7) keV and 185(11) keV, and their E(4$$^+$$)/E(2$$^+$$) ratio, indicate that these nuclei are good rotors, and exclude the shell stabilization scenario at Z=40 and N=70. These results were compared to state-of-the-art density functional theoretical calculations using Gogny and Skyrme effective interactions.

RENiO$$_3$$ (RE = rare-earth element) and V$$_2$$O$$_3$$ are archetypal Mott insulator systems. When tuned by chemical substitution (RENiO$$_3$$) or pressure (V$$_2$$O$$_3$$), they exhibit a quantum phase transition (QPT) between an antiferromagnetic Mott insulating state and a paramagnetic metallic state. Because novel physics often appears near a Mott QPT, the details of this transition, such as whether it is first or second order, are important. Here, we demonstrate through muon spin relaxation/rotation experiments that the QPT in RENiO$$_3$$ and V$$_2$$O$$_3$$ is first order: the magnetically ordered volume fraction decreases to zero at the QPT, resulting in a broad region of intrinsic phase separation, while the ordered magnetic moment retains its full value until it is suddenly destroyed at the QPT. These findings bring to light a surprising universality of the pressure-driven Mott transition, revealing the importance of phase separation and calling for further investigation into the nature of quantum fluctuations underlying the transition.

中性子数20領域の中性子過剰核では、魔法数20が消滅することが知られ、殻構造の変化が起きていると考えられている。この論文では、この領域の殻構造をより直接的に調べるため、$$^{37,38}$$Si核の準位構造を$$^{37,38}$$Al核のベータ崩壊によって調べた結果を報告する。$$^{37,38}$$Alを理化学研究所RIBFを用いて生成し、そこからのベータ崩壊後の$$gamma$$線を観測することによって、$$^{37,38}$$Si核の低励起状態の準位構造を得た。$$^{37}$$Siの717keVと1270keVに強く遷移することから、これらの準位は正パリティ状態と同定された。実験で得られた準位構造は殻模型計算によってよく再現され、717keVと1270keVはそれぞれ$$3/2^+$$, $$5/2^+$$に対応することがわかった。この結果は、最近の殻模型相互作用が与える殻構造変化を確かめるものである。

アルゴンヌ国立研究所にて中性子過剰核$$^{70}$$Niを$$^{70}$$Znの多核子移行反応によって生成し、$$gamma$$線検出器GRETINAを用いて$$gamma$$線分光を行った。その結果、$$2^+_2$$, $$4^+_2$$準位を初めて観測した。これらの準位は小さな模型空間を採用した殻模型計算では再現されないため、陽子の$$f_{7/2}$$軌道からの励起を伴った大きな変形状態であると考えられる。本論文の理論グループが2014年に発表した大規模殻模型計算によって$$^{70}$$Niの励起状態を解析した結果、これらの状態は大きなプロレート変形を持つ状態とよく対応することがわかった。この結果は、中性子過剰ニッケル同位体における変形共存が$$^{68}$$Ni以外にも存在することを実証するとともに、中性子過剰核における大規模殻模型計算の予言能力を確かめるものである。


High order harmonics from relativistic electron spikes

We provide a description of experiments performed with the J-KAREN and Astra Gemini lasers where we discovered a new regime of relativistic high-order harmonic generation by multi-terawatt femtosecond lasers in gas targets. The results were explained using particle-in-cell simulations and catastrophe theory. Our work paves the way towards a bright coherent X-ray source based on compact lasers and accessible, repetitive, and debris-free gas jet targets. Such a source will be crucial for fundamental research and numerous applications requiring pumping, probing, imaging of microscopic objects and for attosecond science.

A movable material probe system (Material and Plasma Evaluation System: MAPES) with an independent pumping system and a sample exchange chamber has been developed and installed on a horizontal port of the EAST tokamak for studies of plasma material interaction (PMI). In the 2012 experimental campaign, deposition and erosion were studied for three samples: mock-up of the outer first wall panels (FWPs) in ITER, castellated tungsten, and molybdenum mirrors. The FWPs with carbon deposition layer were exposed to helium plasmas. The maximum erosion rate of the carbon was valuated to be 8 nm/s. The castellated tungsten with rectangular cells and roof-like shaped cells was exposed to deuterium plasmas to compare amount of deposits on the gap surface. The amount of carbon and boron impurities on the gap surface of the roof-like shaped cells were reduced to less than 30% compared with that of the rectangular cells. The molybdenum mirrors of which protective ducts are installed in front were exposed to deuterium plasmas in order to investigate effects of length of the ducts. It was found that the reflectivity of the mirrors with 60 mm-long protective ducts is kept the initial reflectivity.

We present a detailed description of our discovery of a new regime of high-order harmonic generation, including experimental data, simulations, and description of new harmonic generation mechanism. The harmonics are generated by multi-terawatt relativistic-irradiance ($$>$$ 10$$^{18}$$ W/cm$$^2$$) femtosecond ($$approx$$ 30-50 fs) lasers focused to gas jet targets. According to our model, the harmonics are produced by sharp, structurally stable, oscillating electron spikes at the joint of boundaries of wake and bow waves excited by the laser pulse.

強磁性絶縁体/Ptと強磁性絶縁体/常磁性金属/Pt複合素子において、スピンHall磁気抵抗効果の定量測定を行った。強磁性絶縁体にはイットリウム鉄ガーネット,ニッケルフェライト,マグネタイトを用い、常磁性中間層には銅、金を用いた。以上により、薄い中間層にかかわらず、Pt層のスピンHall効果と逆スピンHall効果の複合によって強磁性層の磁化方向に依存した磁気抵抗効果が生じるというスピンHall磁気抵抗効果の理論の正当性が実験的に確認された。スピンHall磁気抵抗効果の理論を援用することで、4$$times10^{14}Omega^{-1}$$m$$^{-2}$$のスピンミキシングコンダクタンスを持つサンプルに対して、PtのスピンHall角とスピン拡散長がそれぞれ、$$0.11pm0.08, 1.5pm0.5$$nmと得られた。

We propose the experiments on the collision of intense laser pulses with energetic electron bunches and on the collision of two or more intense laser pulses for studying extreme field limits in the nonlinear interaction of electromagnetic waves. The regimes of dominant radiation reaction, which completely changes the electromagnetic wave matter interaction, will be revealed in such experiments. This will result in a new powerful source of ultra short high brightness $$gamma$$-ray pulses. A possibility of the demonstration of the electron positron pair creation from vacuum in the collision of two or more intense laser pulses is discussed.


Relativistic high harmonic generation in gas jet targets

We experimentally demonstrate new regime of high-order harmonic generation by relativistic-irradiance lasers in gas jet targets. Bright harmonics with both the odd and even orders are emitted in the forward direction, while the base harmonic frequency is downshifted. The harmonics are generated by linearly as well as circularly polarized pulses. With the 9 TW laser, the harmonics reach 360 eV, within the "water window" spectral region. Using 120 TW laser producing 40 uJ/sr per harmonic at 120 eV, we demonstrate the photon number scalability. The experimentally demonstrated harmonics cannot be explained by previously known mechanisms. We introduce a novel high-order harmonics generation mechanism, which explains our experimental findings.
