Bi, magnetic moments and quadrupole moments of the neutron-deficient bismuth isotopes 
Bi were measured at ISOLDE (CERN). In the experiment, the in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique was employed, which permits to study isotopes produced with rates as low as 0.1/sec. The radii of 
Bi manifest a large staggering, corresponding to a sudden increase of the radius of 
Bi relative to its 
Bi neighbors. This staggering effect occurs at neutron number 
=105, where shape staggering was also observed in the mercury isotopes. Experimental results were compared with state-of-the-art mean-field calculations, which permit to identify the quasiparticle configurations compatible with the observed spin, parity and magnetic moment of the newly observed states.

2011年3月に起こった、東京電力福島第一原子力発電所の事故により、福島県を中心とする陸域に大規模な放射能汚染が起こった。事故後の2011年6月には、日本地球惑星科学連合および日本放射化学会を中心とした有志の研究グループが、汚染状況の把握のための土壌採取のフィールド実験を実施した。これにより初期の汚染状況が明らかとなったが、航空機サーベイ等による汚染状況の把握は継続して行われているものの、実際に土壌を採取して汚染状況の詳細を把握する大規模な調査はそれ以降行われていない。そこで本研究では、福島県内の帰還困難区域を中心として土壌採取のフィールド実験を行い、その分析により現在の汚染状況の把握することを目的に実施した。福島県内の帰還困難区域を中心として、公共施設等を選定したうえで、各自治体との情報交換を行い、除染が行われていない地点を土壌採取場所として選択した。採取土壌は乾燥後、ゲルマニウム半導体検出器を用いた
線測定を実施し、土壌中の放射性セシウム濃度を定量した。なお本発表は本研究に関するシリーズ発表の第1弾で手法に言及した発表であり、詳細な成果は第2弾にて報告する。
