The electronic structure of the -based superconductor was studied by photoelectron spectroscopy. The energy distribution of the state was revealed by the resonant photoelectron spectroscopy. The state was mostly distributed in the vicinity of the Fermi energy, suggesting the itinerant character of the state. The contribution of the state to the density of states (DOS) at the Fermi energy was estimated to be nearly half of that of the states, implying that the state has aconsiderable contribution to the DOS at the Fermi energy. The core-level and X-ray absorption spectra were analyzed based on a single-impurity Anderson model. The number of the state in the ground state was estimated to be 0.8-0.9, which is much larger than the values obtained in the previous studies (i.e., 0-0.4).

被引用回数:0 パーセンタイル:0(Multidisciplinary Sciences)Superconducting (SC) state has spin and orbital degrees of freedom, and spin-triplet superconductivity shows multiple SC phases because of the presence of these degrees of freedom. However, the observation of spin-direction rotation occurring inside the SC state (SC spin rotation) has hardly been reported. Uranium ditelluride, a recently found topological superconductor, exhibits various SC phases under pressure: SC state at ambient pressure (SC1), high-temperature SC state above 0.5 gigapascal (SC2), and low-temperature SC state above 0.5 gigapascal (SC3). We performed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and ac susceptibility measurements on a single-crystal uranium ditelluride. The b axis spin susceptibility remains unchanged in SC2, unlike in SC1, and decreases below the SC2-SC3 transition with spin modulation. These unique properties in SC3 arise from the coexistence of two SC order parameters. Our NMR results confirm spin-triplet superconductivity with SC spin parallel to b axis in SC2 and unveil the remaining of spin degrees of freedom in SC uranium ditelluride.

The magnetic fluctuations are almost identical at two Te sites and isotropic at high temperatures, but become anisotropic below 40 K, where heavy-fermion state is formed.

In the higher-quality sample, the SC transition temperature is about 2.1 K, and the residual electronic term in the specific heat is almost zero. The NMR linewidth becomes narrower and is almost half of that in the previous sample with 1.6 K when and . Although the Knight-shift behavior was not so different from the previous results for , and , a large reduction in Knight shift along the axis was observed, in contrast with the previous -axis Knight shift result. We discuss the origin of the difference between the previous and present results, and the possible SC state derived from the present results.

One of the characteristic features of UTe is a magnetic field ()-boosted superconductivity above 16 T when H is applied exactly parallel to the axis. To date, this superconducting (SC) state has not been thoroughly investigated, and the SC properties as well as the spin state of this high- SC (HHSC) phase are not well understood. In this letter, we performed AC magnetic susceptibility and nuclear magnetic resonance measurements and found that, up to 24.8 T, the HHSC state has bulk nature and is quite sensitive to the angle and that its SC character is different from that in the low- SC (LHSC) state. The dominant spin component of the spin-triplet pair is along the axis in the LHSC state but is changed in the HHSC state along the axis. Our results indicate that -induced multiple SC states originate from the remaining spin degrees of freedom.

Longitudinal magnetic fluctuations were observed in the spin-echo decay rate near the ferromagnetic critical point where superconductivity takes place. This result strongly suggests that superconductivity in ferromagnets is universally mediated by anisotropic magnetic fluctuations.

Our zero-field SR experiments revealed the development of critical slowing down of Eu spin fluctuations over a relatively wide critical region above . We also found from Si NMR that the spin fluctuations are strongly suppressed by magnetic field in the paramagnetic state above 20K. These characteristic spin dynamics observed over a wide region of temperature and magnetic field suggest the presence of magnetic frustration in the spin system. Such frustration would underlie the mechanism stabilizing the short-period skyrmion lattice observed in this compound.

At 30 K below a charge-density-wave (CDW) transition, superlattice peaks emerge near nuclear Bragg peaks described by an ordering vector = (0 0 ). In contrast, magnetic peaks appear at with = 0.09 below = 15.4 K, and moves to with = 0.19 below =12.2 K, whereas no distinct change in the magnetic Bragg peak was detected at and . The structural modification with is characterized by an absence of the superlattice peak in (0 0 ). Considering an absence of splitting in magnetic peaks along , the structural transition is mainly ascribed to a displacement of Al ions within the tetragonal -plane. Complex incommensurate magnetic transitions are in stark contrast to a simple collinear commensurate structure in isovalent EuGa. This could stem from incompatible electronic structures with the CDW transition between two compounds.

We previously reported that the shoulder signal appears in NMR spectra below the superconducting (SC) transition temperature in , and a slight decrease in the Knight shift along the and axes ( and , respectively) below at a low magnetic field . Although the decrease in vanished above 5.5 T, the decrease in was independent of up to 6.5 T. To clarify the origin of the shoulder signal and the trace of the decrease in , we compared the Te-NMR spectra obtained when and and measured the Te-NMR spectra for up to 14.5 T.

In the SC state, the Knight shifts along the and axes ( and , respectively) decreased slightly, and the decrease in was almost constant up to 6.5 T. The reduction in decreased with increasing , and was unchanged through the SC transition temperature at 5.5 T, excluding the possibility of spin-singlet pairing. Our results indicate that spin susceptibilities along the and axes slightly decrease in the SC state in low , and the response of SC spin susceptibility is anisotropic on the plane.

The main peak position of the core-level spectrum of coincides with that of , which is anitinerant compound with a nearly configuration. However, the main peak of is broader than that of, and satellite structures are observed in the higher binding energy side of the main peak, which are characteristics of mixed-valence uranium compounds. These results suggest that the state in isin a mixed valence state with a dominant contribution from the itinerant configuration.
