The alkali metal dependences of the first sharp diffraction peak (FSDP) and the boson peak (BP) are investigated in alkali borate glasses by elastic and inelastic neutron scattering experiments. With an increase in ionic radius of alkali ions, both the width of FSDP and the BP energy decrease. The comparison of the characteristic length of medium-range order (MRO) predicted by the FSDP and the position of the BP allows us to find the mean-square fluctuations of the transverse sound velocity within series of alkali borate glasses. It is shown that the fragility of the respective alkali borate melts inversely correlates with the mean-square fluctuations of the transverse sound velocity in glassy state.

被引用回数:6 パーセンタイル:29.03(Materials Science, Ceramics)This paper reports the variation in the first sharp diffraction peak (FSDP) and the boson peak (BP) of lithium and cesium borate glasses xMO-(1-x)BO (M = Li, Cs, x = 0.08, 0.14, 0.22) investigated by elastic and inelastic neutron scattering. The different content dependences between lithium and cesium borate glasses are discussed based on the different modifications of the boron-oxide network structure by the small Li and large Cs ions. The static characteristic correlation lengths R were determined from the width of the FSDP of the static structure factor . The dynamic characteristic correlation lengths R were determined from the BP energy of the dynamic structure factor . They are close in absolute value (about 2 nm). With increasing x, R increases, while R gradually decreases with the different rate in the lithium and cesium glasses. However, their ratio, R/R increases with the content of the metal in both the lithium and cesium glasses at the same rate. The decrease in the amplitude of elastic fluctuations with the increasing x due to the increase in fragility with the increasing x might restore the correlation between R and R in the lithium borate glasses, and this tendency may be the same for the cesium borate glasses.

被引用回数:13 パーセンタイル:49.65(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)Ti組成が傾斜した単結晶試料Pb[(MgNb)Ti]Oを用いてモルフォトロピック相境界(MPB)近傍の相図ならびに電気応答と結晶コヒーレンス長の相関を調べた。結晶は29mol%と34.7mol%付近に相境界がありそれらは単斜晶相MB-単斜晶相MC,単斜晶相MC-正方晶相境界と対応する。結晶コヒーレンス長のTi濃度依存性は電気応答と強い負の相関を示しており、これらはMPB近傍におけるドメインサイズ効果として説明可能である。
