中性およびカチオンのU(IV)サンドイッチ型フタロシアニン(Pc)錯体を調製した。中性種であるUPc$$_{2}$$はUCl$$_{4}$$とフタロニトリルの反応によって得られ、[UPc$$_{2}$$][BF$$_{4}$$]]の結晶は電解によって成長させた。これらの錯体の構造は、結晶学的に決定された。U(IV)イオンは2個の$$5f$$電子を持ち、この電子はUサイトに局在する磁気モーメントを担うため、この錯体は磁気的に活性である。UPc$$_{2}$$の帯磁率測定から、この系は2Kまで局所的な磁気モーメントを持つ常磁性であるが、配位子磁場効果により、その磁気モーメントが抑制されている可能性があることがわかった。また、ヒステリシスのない磁化曲線から常磁性であることが確認された。カチオン性錯体である[UPc$$_{2}$$][BF$$_{4}$$]は空間群$$P4nc$$の正方形構造で結晶化し、UPc$$_{2}$$分子は正方形の$$c$$軸に沿って積み重なっていることがわかった。この構造は[LnPc$$_{2}$$][BF$$_{4}$$]と似ているが、積層面には明瞭な乱れがあった。アクチノイド元素の多配位性を考慮した第一原理計算により、UPc$$_{2}$$と[UPc$$_{2}$$][BF$$_{4}$$]の結晶構造、分子構造の安定性と電子配置を評価した。

Influence of additives on low-temperature hydrothermal synthesis of UO$$_{2+x}$$ and ThO$$_2$$

Hydrothermal reactions of uranium(IV) nitrate solutions in the presence of aldehydes yielded microparticles of UO$$_{2+x}$$, at temperatures as low as 100$$^{circ}$$C. The synthesized products contained residual organic matter originating from aldehydes used as an additive, unless the synthesis temperature was 390$$^{circ}$$C. Additionally, the residual matter could be separated from the product by heat treatment at $$>$$ 300$$^{circ}$$C. The valence of uranium ions in the UO$$_{2+x}$$ products was found to be higher than that reported for UO$$_{2}$$. Low synthesis temperatures resulted in the suppression of the magnetic moments of uranium ions and the occurrence of the spin interaction among the ions. Therefore, the oxidation number of uranium averaged over the entire product could become higher than 4+. A comparative study with ThO$$_2$$ suggested that the redox reaction could be closely related to the hydrothermal synthesis reaction and particle growth of UO$$_{2+x}$$.

添加剤を変えながらウラン酸化物(U, $$M$$)O$$_2$$ ($$M$$=Th, Np)固溶体を超臨界水熱合成で調製した。それらの試料の均質性をVegard則に基づいた結晶構造解析や、(U, Np, Na)O$$_2$$固溶体については、$$^{23}$$Na核核磁気共鳴(NMR)によって調べた。その結果、(i) (U, Th)O$$_{2+x}$$固溶体の場合は、炭酸アンモニウムを添加剤として、IV価ウランから出発し、(ii) (U, Np)O$$_{2+x}$$の場合は、エタノールを添加剤として、VI価ウランから出発すると、均質な試料が得られることがわかった。

超臨界水下においてウラン酸化物UO$$_2$$の水熱合成について調べた。得られたUO$$_{2+x}$$粒子について、その化学組成,結晶形,サイズ,均一性などを調べた結果、超臨界水熱合成法は、化学的に制御された均一なUO$$_{2+x}$$を合成するのに有効である可能性がある。

The crystal structure of the newly discovered compound U$$_3$$TiBi$$_9$$ was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. This compound shows an antiferromagnetic ordering at 31.5 K. A clear anomaly was observed at the transition temperature on the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity.

3価アクチノイドと3価ランタノイドの選択的分離を実現することを目的にゲル/液抽出に関する検討を行った。本研究では、N,N,N',N'-tetraallylpyridine-2,6-dicarboxamine (PDA)を含む温感ハイドロゲルを合成し、そのランタノイドとの錯形成についてSPring-8での広域X線吸収微細構造法により検討した。その結果、配位子を含むゲルと含まないゲルとでは、試料温度を変化させた時の動径構造関数(RSF)の変化が異なることが分かった。試料温度を上昇させると、熱振動の増大により動径構造関数のピークは減少するが、PDAを含むゲルではこれに加えピーク位置が近距離側にシフトする様子が観測された。このシフトは、ランタノイド-PDA錯体の化学量論比の変化、もしくは、ハイドロゲル高分子鎖のコンフォメーション変化による親水/疎水特性が変化することに伴う水分子の配位数の変化に由来すると考えられる。

A new compound of the composition ScPd$$_2$$Al$$_3$$ showing polymorphism has been discovered. At room temperature, it crystalizes in the orthorhombic structure, but it transforms into a cubic phase above 1053$$^{circ}$$C. ScPd$$_2$$Al$$_3$$ exists as a very stable intermetallic phase just in the vicinity of the icosahedral quasicrystal Al$$_{54}$$Pd$$_{30}$$Sc$$_{16}$$.

Transport characteristics of an antiferromagnetic uranium compound URhIn$$_5$$ are studied. The antiferromagnetic transition leads to a formation of a gap on the Fermi surface as demonstrated by a hump in the resistivity behavior as a function of temperature. Hall effect, magnetoresistance and de Haas-van Alphen study consistently demonstrate a small carrier concentration in the antiferromagnetic state suggesting that majority of the Fermi surface vanishes.

We investigated the evolution of magnetism in UIr$$_{1-x}$$Rh$$_x$$Ge system by systematic study on high-quality single crystals. We find a field-induced first order transition in the vicinity of the critical magnetic field along the $$b$$ axis in the entire UIr$$_{1-x}$$Rh$$_x$$Ge system, including the ferromagnetic region.

dHvA oscillations were detected on an actinide compound ThRu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ which is regarded as a reference to strongly correlated electron systems URu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ and CeRu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$. Observed Fermi surfaces well coincides with the band structure calculations, as well as experimentally obtained ones for a heavy fermion compound CeRu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$. On the other hand, Fermi surfaces of URu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ have significantly different characteristics, suggesting an itinerant ground state of 5f electrons.

We have investigated the ferromagnetic (FM) phase, which suddenly develops in UCo$$_{1-x}$$Ru$$_{x}$$Al and is isolated by paramagnetic regions on both sides from the parent UCoAl and URuAl. We conclude that both criticalities are influenced by disorder. Criticality on the UCoAl side has character of a clean FM metal, while on the Ru rich side it has the character of a magnetically inhomogeneous system involving a Griffiths phase.

We investigate the modification of the electronic state of ThRu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ upon replacing non magnetic Th by U. We successfully observed the quantum oscillation signals from the Fermi surface. The observed Fermi surfaces did not show a significant change in size for the U$$_{0.03}$$Th$$_{0.97}$$Ru$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ sample. However the enhancement of the cyclotron effective mass demonstrates the hybridization of the 5$$f$$ states with the conduction bands.

We present the large reversible magneto caloric effect of the ferromagnetic semiconductor EuS which shows a maximum magnetic entropy change of 37 J/K kg at 10.4 K, an adiabatic temperature change of 10.4 K and a relative cooling power of 782 J/kg at 18.5 K for a magnetic field change of 5 T. The present results indicate that EuS has excellent refrigeration performance at the temperatures near 20 K, and thus can be considered as the potential magnetic refrigerant material for liquefaction of hydrogen.

We report the results for ac and dc susceptibility, magnetization, magnetic relaxation, specific heat and electrical resistivity measurements on a well annealed ternary intermetallic compound Dy$$_2$$PtSi$$_3$$. An unusual magnetic phase transition with an apparent ferromagnetic nature was observed at $$T_{rm C}$$ = 5.6 K. The classification of Dy$$_2$$PtSi$$_3$$ as a large magnetic cluster (extended short-range ferromagnetic ordered) system with competition between magnetic ordering and random spin freezing seems appropriate.

将来アクチノイド研究・技術に従事することが期待される若手に向けたJ-ACTINET主催のサマースクールが成功裏に開催された。第1回のサマースクールは2009年8月茨城地区で開催され、2010年8月関西地区での開催が続いた。アクチノイド研究の入門コースとして、大学・大学院学生並びに若手研究者・エンジニアを対象として、実際のアクチノイド体験を主眼とした。3$$sim$$4日の短期間のスクールでアクチノイドの体験を行い、アクチノイドへの興味を引き出すために多くの努力が払われた。茨城地区でのサマースクールにおいてはアクチノイド取扱いの模擬体験が、また、関西地区でのサマースクールにおいては実際のアクチノイドを用いた実験が好評を博した。今後J-ACTINETサマースクールを毎年開催していく予定である。

A systematic investigation of magnetic properties has been performed on intermetallic compound Pr$$_2$$AgIn$$_3$$, which crystallizes in a disordered hexagonal CaIn$$_2$$-type structure. The results provide clear evidence for the formation of spin-glass state in Pr$$_2$$AgIn$$_3$$ below a spin freezing temperature $$T$$$$_f$$ $$sim$$ 3.7 K accompanied with a short-range magnetic order. The spin-glass state in Pr$$_2$$AgIn$$_3$$ can be considered to originate from the continued site randomness of the non- magnetic elements, Ag and In, which introduce the random distribution of the RKKY interactions.

アクチノイド元素の電池活物質としての有効な利用法を切り開く研究開発の一環として、溶融塩系ウランレドックスフロー電池あるいはそれに代わるアラン溶融塩電池概念について検討を行った。塩化物溶融塩を用いた「U(Bi)-Cl$$_{2}$$」電池に着目し、その基礎特性評価のために、UCl$$_{3}$$の代替としてのLaCl$$_{3}$$を用いて電気化学的特性を調べた。起電力法により、液体Bi中でのランタニド金属の活量係数を調べた。サイクリックボルタンメトリーによりLaの電解特性,固体陰極への電解析出特性,液体BiへのLaの還元溶解特性,BiCl$$_{3}$$とLaCl$$_{3}$$の同時析出による金属間化合物の形成に伴う還元波の特性,などを調べた。また、溶融塩中のウランの溶存状態分析を行うために、溶融塩紫外可視吸光分光系を構築し、NdCl$$_{3}$$の吸収スペクトルの測定により同系の特性を調べた。

U,Np,Pu,Amの電気化学的性質を電池活物質としての観点から検討した。熱力学的性質と電極反応速度に関する理論的及び実験的検討から、Npが水溶液系で、Uが非プロトン性溶媒系で、陽極としてVI価/V価の酸化還元対,負極としてIV価/III価の酸化還元対を用いることによって、電力貯蔵のためのレドックスフロー電池の活物質として利用できることを明らかにした。この電池は次のように表せる; Electrode(-)$$mid$$An$$^{3+}$$,An$$^{4+}midmid$$AnO$$_{2}^{+}$$, AnO$$_{2}^{2+}mid$$Electrode(+)。Np(VI)/Np(V)とNp(IV)/Np(III)の標準電極反応速度,Np電池の開回路電圧をサイクリック・ボルタンメトリーにより評価し、Np電池の実証を行った。新規配位子を含むUの$$beta$$-ジケトン錯体のサイクリック・ボルタンメトリーからU錯体のU(VI)/U(V)とU(IV)/U(III)の酸化還元の電位及び機構を明らかにし、配位子の電子供与性とともにU電池の開回路電圧が増加することを見いだした。

ウランカルコゲナイドの比熱

斜方晶のジカルコゲナイドUSX(X=S, Se, Te)では原子番号が大きくなるにしたがい、半導体から金属まで伝導度が変化し、これに伴い磁性も常磁性から強磁性に変化する。このなかで$$beta$$-US$$_2$$は低温において狭いギャップを持つ半導体であるが、そのギャップは磁場や圧力などに非常に敏感であり、7T程度の磁場や8GPa程度の圧力で6桁以上も電気抵抗が減少し、金属的な振る舞いを示す。一方、この磁気抵抗効果には、磁気ポーラロンの形成が関与していると考えられることが磁化測定からわかっている。今回、我々は$$beta$$-US$$_2$$について磁場中での比熱を測定した。8Tの磁場下では低温での比熱が抑制され、磁気ポーラロンによる比熱の寄与が失われており、磁化測定結果とコンシステントである。一方、高温側での結晶場に起因する磁気比熱にもわずかに変化が見られた。
