Application of hydrostatic pressure varies the transition temperature and the compound becomes non-magnetic above the critical pressure 9 GPa. 核分裂性プルトニウムの存在比が約75%であるため高次化プルトニウムを用いた3%富化混合酸化物燃料を使って、H/Puが295
922の範囲で、一連の臨界実験が行なわれ、臨界量、中性子束分布、出力分布、
eff/l等が測定された。PuO2-UO2燃料一領域炉心の材料バックリングBm2はH/Puが530で最大となり、eff/lはUO2系のそれの約1/2となった。また、高次化プルトニウム燃料に特微的なこととして、241Puの崩壊による反応度減少が1年間で約1ドルにも達すること、および自発中性子源レベルが高いので、反応度測定上に注意を要すること等が判明した。実験解析では、群定数コードとして、LASER-PNCおよび、UGMG42-THERMOSが使用され、2次元臨界計算コードとしてPDQ-5が使用された。計算値は測定値と良い一致を示し、燃料設計コードの精度の良さが検証された。本実験および解析は、原研との共同研究として実施されたものであり、さらに複雑な炉心体系についての実験と解析も進んでおり、幅広い実験データと計算手法の蓄積がなされている。本報告書は、JAERI-memo5745と同一内容である。

岩盤中にトンネルを掘削すると空洞周辺の岩盤は緩み、その挙動はゆるみ域を制御し地山のアーチ作用を発揮させることによって安定に至る。ゆるみ域は、ひずみ軟化域と塑性流動域から成る非弾性域の拡がりとして定義される。トンネル施工の実用的な施工管理基準としては、一般的なコンバージェンス計測結果を利用して、非弾性域を定量的に把握し、塑性流動の発生を抑制するために許容される変形量を決定することが必要である。筆者らは、砂岩及び頁岩,花崗閃緑岩、そして、粘板岩を掘削対象とする6つの道路トンネルの施工事例で計測された約500例のコンバージェンス曲線を詳細に解析した。その結果として、支保荷重,初期変形速度、そして、最終変形量の関係を示した既往の岩盤挙動分類と関連させて、ゆるみの発達規模と許容変形量を算定した。
