Decay properties of the neutron-deficient Sg isotopes were studied at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI, Darmstadt by using the $$^{52}$$Cr + $$^{206,208}$$Pb reactions. We report on the discovery of the new isotope $$^{257}$$Sg. Its ground state, tentatively assigned to have 9/2$$^-$$[734]configuration, was observed to decay by both spontaneous fission and-particle emission with a half-life of 12.6 ms. The alpha decay from this high-spin state was followed by fission of $$^{253}$$Rf. In $$^{259}$$Sg, we observed strong evidence for the occurrence of a $$K$$-isomeric state for the first time in superheavy nuclei with 106 protons. The current experimental findings, discussed within the experimental systematics and theory, indicate that hitherto unseen features of the shell effect on the fission process may be found in the neutron-deficient superheavy nuclei.

The use of MOX fuels in thermal and fast reactors requires accurate capture and fission cross sections. For the particular case of $$^{242}$$Pu, the previous neutron capture cross section measurements were made in the 70's, providing an uncertainty of about 35% in the keV region. NEA WPEC-26 reports that the capture cross section of $$^{242}$$ Pu should be measured with an accuracy of at least 7-12% in the neutron energy range between 500 eV and 500 keV. This work presents a brief description of the measurement performed at n_TOF-EAR1, the data reduction process and the first ToF capture measurement on this isotope in the last 40 years, providing preliminary individual resonance parameters, as well as a preliminary set of average resonance parameters.
