We developed an active-target type gas counter operating with low He/CO$$_{2}$$ (10%) detector gas for application in studying low-energy nuclear reactions using radioactive beams. A 400-$$mu$$m-thick gas electron multiplier (THGEM) was used as the proportional counter for high injection rate capability. We examined the gas gain stability and the influence of ion feedback on particle tracks at high beam injection rates of up to 10$$^{5}$$ particles per second (pps) using a low-energy $$^{12}$$C beam. From the result of this examination, we found that the THGEM was found to be applicable for our active target at high injection rates of up to 10$$^{5}$$ pps.

JAERI has been developing a large-capacity high-temperature superconductor (HTS) current lead for fusion application, and succeeded in fabricating and testing a 60kA HTS current lead satisfying ITER requirements. Targets of performance are 1/10 heat leak and 1/3 electric power consumption of cryogenic system compared with a conventional lead. To achieve the target, selection of sheath material of HTS, optimizing the Cu part, reduction of joule heat at joint between HTS and Cu parts, improve of heat transfer between HTS and stainless steel tube. Developed 60kA HTS current lead satisfied the design condition and almost achieved the targets. Adoption of the HTS current lead can reduce 13% electric power consumption of cryogenic system for ITER.

The isobaric analog resonance of $$^{69}$$Zn was investigated by resonance elastic scattering of p($$^{68}$$Zn,p) with a 5.5 MeV/nucleon $$^{68}$$Zn beam and a thick CH$$_2$$ target at JAEA tandem accelerator facility. Excitation function of the differential cross section of proton elastic scattering was measured around 0 degree in the laboratory frame. Angular momentum, and proton and total widths of the resonance determined using $$R$$-matrix calculation are in good agreement with earlier measurements performed in normal kinematics.
