We report on the first results for the geometrical determination of adsorbed atoms on an oxide by a soft-X-ray sanding wave method. The samples investigated were alkyl phosphonic acid (C10) adsorbed on a sapphire surface, which is one of the candidate systems for organic self-assembled monolayer (SAM) on oxides. The surface was irradiated by synchrotron soft X-rays from the surface normal. The intensity of photoelectrons was plotted as a function of the photon energy. We observed clear profiles of the photoelectron intensity due to the standing wave from the substrate. Compared with the simulation using the crystal parameters, it was found that the phosphorus atoms are located at 0.11 nm from the surface, while the constant height was not observed for carbon atoms. The results are in consistent with the results by XPS and NEXAFS; the molecules form SAM on the sapphire surface with phosphonic acids and alkyl chains are located at the upper side.

Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to
collisions.

Times Cited Count:13 Percentile:32.81(Oncology)We examined the intracellular localization of cisplatin, a key chemotherapeutic agent, in esophageal cancer cell lines and determined their sensitivity to cisplatin using in-air micro-PIXE. Two human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cell lines, TE-2 and TE-13, were examined for their response to cisplatin using MTT assay, flow cytometry and DNA fragmentation assays. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was also used to evaluate the mRNA expression of multidrug resistance protein 2 (MRP2) in both cell lines. Platinum localizations of intracellular and intranuclear were measured using in-air micro-PIXE. TE-2 cells were more sensitive to cisplatin than TE-13 cells. The results of this study suggest that in-air micro-PIXE could be a useful quantitative method for evaluating the cisplatin sensitivity of individual cells. Finally, we speculate that MRP2 in the cell membrane may play an important role in regulating cisplatin sensitivity of ESCC cells.

The momenta of O fragments are recorded in coincidence with C(1s) KVV Auger electrons for 3 different photon energies and both vertical and horizontal polarization of the incident radiation. The angular distribution of the Auger electrons is found to be independent of both energy and polarization, and the two-step model deemed to be valid.

following Ar 2p or Kr 3d Auger decay has been investigated by means of momentum-resolved electron-ion-ion-coincidence spectroscopy. This sequential decay leads to Coulombic dissociation into dication and monocation. Simultaneously determining the kinetic energy of the ICD electron and the kinetic energy release between the two atomic ions, we could unambiguously identify the ICD channels. We find that, in general, spin conserved ICD, in which the singlet (triplet) dicationic state produced via the atomic Auger decay preferentially decays to the singlet (triplet) state, transferring the energy to the other atom, is faster than the spin-flip ICD, in which the Auger final singlet (triplet) dicationic state decays to the triplet (singlet) state.

Recently, we have found the appearance of substantial MR ratio (80%) in a C/Co hybrid material. Such the MR ratio cannot be explained enough only by tunnel conduction through Co grains. Therefore, to obtain information about electronic structures of C
/Co hybrid material is necessary. Absorption spectra of C
Co are different from that of pristine C
. In particular, peak intensity corresponding to
(LUMO)
C 1s excitation of C
Co is clearly attenuated. In addition, C 1s photoelectron peak of C
Co slightly shifted to lower binding energy compared to that of pristine C
. These results indicate that 3d electron of Co transfers to
orbital of C
and new electronic states are formed in the C
-Co compound. In fact, XPS spectra of valence excitation region also demonstrate the formation of hybrid orbital near the Fermi level due to the coupling of C
and Co.

H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

The pulse bending magnets for the injection system of the 3-GeV RCS in J-PARC has been designed. The injection system consists of the pulsed bending magnets, which are four horizontal bending magnets (shift bump) and four horizontal painting magnets (h-paint bump) for the injection bump orbit, and two vertical painting magnets (v-paint magnet). The injection beam energy and the extraction beam power are 400 MeV and 1 MW at 25 Hz repetition rate, respectively. The acceptance to include the injection beam, the painting beam and the circulating beam at the shift bump points is a 388 mm wide and a 242 mm high. The shift bump has been designed using a 3D magnetic analysis code, which accomplished less than 0.4 % field deviation under 0.26 T excitation level.

The RCS(rapid cycling synchrotron) of J-PARC (Japan proton accelerator research complex) acts as an injector to the main ring as well as a high-power beam for the spallation neutron source at a repetition rate of 25 Hz, where at present the injection and the extraction beam energy are chosen to be 0.181 GeV and 3.0 GeV, respectively. The present work concerns on the present design and calculations for the injection-dump line of the RCS, which includes, (1) an accurate aperture list of all elements taking into account a wide range of the betatron tune, effect of changing injection modes, multiple trajectories of different particles after the charge-exchange foil(like H0 from the H and H
beam itself)and (2) an accurate estimation of the uncontrolled beam losses especially from the H0-excited states, multiple coulomb scattering at the charge-exchange foil and also the lorentz stripping loss at the septum magnets so as to optimize them concerning mainly the radiation issues as well as for the hands-on maintenance.
