It is known that the in-gap band appears when charge carriers are doped into the charge-transfer-type Mott insulators. A possible origin of the in-gap band has been proposed by Homes et al. on the basis of the charge stripes which have been comprehensively studied by neutron scattering. Motivated by this proposal, we have performed a resonant inelastic X-ray scattering experiment at the Ni-K edge on La
Sr
NiO
where a robust charge stripe order has been characterized. In this talk, we will report the results of this experiment showing that an additional charge excitation appears at the momentum transfer corresponding to the charge stripe spacing.

We analyzed
-ray-induced mutation spectrum in Arabidopsis seedling to investigate the effect of oxidative DNA damage on mutagenesis. Moreover, to evaluate the effect of nucleotide pool sanitization system on
-ray-induced mutations, we analyzed a mutant deficient in the Arabidopsis
gene that is a homologue of
. The
-ray sensitivity of the
mutant was slightly higher, but not statistically significant, than that of wild type plant. However, the mutation spectra induced by
-rays were different between the wild type and
plants. From these results, it was suggested that the
deficiency obviously affects on the mutagenesis but not the plant growth following
-irradiation.

We performed resonant inelastic X-ray scattering at Cu-K absorption edge to study charge excitations in hole-doped high-Tc cuprate La
(Sr,Ba)
CuO
. By subtracting elastic and molecular orbital excitation components from RIXS spectra, we have found dispersing charge excitation below 4 eV. This is the first success of observation of intra-band excitation which reflects dynamical charge-charge correlation function in the hole-doped system.
