Proceedings of ASME 2023 Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference (PVP 2023) (Internet), 8 Pages, 2023/07
Buckling evaluation methods capable of evaluating elasto-plastic buckling under axial compression, bending, and shear loads are required for cylindrical vessels of fast reactors to cope with thinning due to increasing diameter and application to the seismic isolation design against huge seismic ground motion. In this study, in order to confirm the applicability of the proposal evaluation method, several buckling tests and FE analyses were carried out using the specimens made of Gr.91 and austenitic stainless steel. The buckling modes and strength data in the load region where the interaction of cyclic axial compression, bending and shear buckling could occur were examined. As a result, it was confirmed that the proposal evaluation method estimated the buckling load in the tests conservatively.

This paper provides an overview of plant system studies to establish a common technical view for Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor concept between France and Japan based on ASTRID600 and the new concept with downsized output called ASTRID150. One of important issues on a reactor structure design is to enhance seismic resistance to be tolerable against strong earthquake such that postulated in Japan. A concept of High Frequency Design is shared, and the design options related to HFD have been examined and design recommendations are established. In addition, this paper include results of studies for a steam generator, a decay heat removal system, a fuel handling system and a containment vessel.

In this study, in order to confirm the applicability of the proposal evaluation method, several buckling tests and FE analyses were carried out using the specimens made of Modified 9Cr-1Mo steel. The buckling modes and strength data in the load region where the interaction of cyclic axial compression, bending and shear buckling could occur were examined. As a result, it was confirmed that the proposal evaluation method estimated the buckling load in the tests conservatively. Moreover, a series of finite element analyzes using a model with residual stress due to welding revealed that the effect of residual stress on buckling strength is negligible in the evaluation method.

In Japan Atomic Energy Agency, in order to solve the problem in the long-term operation of a light water reactor, preparation which does the irradiation experiment of light-water reactor fuel and material was advanced. JMTR stopped after the 165th operation cycle in August 2006, and is advancing renewal of the irradiation facility towards re-operation. The material irradiation test facility was installed from 2008 fiscal year to 2012 fiscal year in JMTR. The material irradiation test facility is used for IASCC study, and that consists of mainly three equipments. This report is described performance operating test of the water environmental control facilities for IASCC study carried out 2013 fiscal year.

We constructed MeV- and sub-MeV-photon sources by means of Compton backscattering with a laser light and an electron beam at SPring-8 and KPSI-JAEA. MeV-photon source consists of a continuous-wave optically-pumped far infrared laser and an 8-GeV stored electron beam. Sub-MeV-photon source consists of a Nd:YAG pulse-laser and an 150-MeV electron beam accelerated by a microtron. Both source have been succeeded backscattered photon generation. In this talk, I will present characteristics and future prospects of these photon sources.

A circuit model of the power supply with MAMuG accelerator has been developed for the simulation of fast transients related to the accelerator breakdowns. The complex inductive and capacitive couplings were assessed by calculations with finite element techniques. The circuit model, developed to address a number of design issues requiring simulations at system level, is now ready for use - the optimization of passive protections being the most significant application.

Crack growth rate (CGR) tests have been conducted with neutron irradiated compact tension (CT) specimens. The CGR tests of 316L and 304L base metals irradiated from 0.516 to 1.0710n/m (E1MeV), and of 316L and 308L weld metals irradiated from 0.523 to 0.54110n/m (E1MeV) were performed using the reversing dc potential drop (DCPD) method under constant load at a few average stress intensity factors (K) and electrochemical corrosion potential (ECP) conditions at 288C in water. CGRs of base metals were increased with increasing neutron fluence. Clear reductions in CGRs of base metals and weld metals were measured with decreasing ECP levels.

Physics design on plasma parameters, operation scenarios, and the plasma control method are investigated for the achievement of high-. Engineering design and the R&D on the superconducting magnet coils, radiation shield, and vacuum vessel are performed. Recent progress in such physics and technology developments is presented.
