Fm and the transfermium nuclei
Md, and
No, produced by hot- and cold-fusion reactions, in the vicinity of the deformed
neutron shell closure, have been directly measured using a multi-reflection time-of-flight mass spectrograph. The masses of
Es and
Md were measured for the first time. Using the masses of
Md as anchor points for
decay chains, the masses of heavier nuclei, up to
Bh and
Mt, were determined. These new masses were compared with theoretical global mass models and demonstrated to be in good agreement with macroscopic-microscopic models in this region. The empirical shell gap parameter
derived from three isotopic masses was updated with the new masses and corroborate the existence of the deformed
neutron shell closure for Md and Lr.

The nuclei were produced via fusion-evaporation reactions and separated from projectilelike and targetlike particles using GARIS-II before being stopped in a helium-filled gas cell. Time-of-flight spectra for three isobar chains,

In this study, neutron imaging experiment was performed using NOBORU, BL10 of MLF at J-PARC. Four kinds of cast duplex stainless steel with ferrite and austenite microstructure were studied here, which were produced by different casting method at different temperature. Firstly, two-dimensional scintillation detector using wavelength-shifting fibers with pixel size of 0.52 mm 0.52 mm and illuminated area 55 mm
55 mm was used for data collection. Then, measurement by Micro Pixel Chamber based neutron imaging detector having higher spatial resolution about 0.2 mm was conducted. Data analysis code RITS (Rietveld Imaging of Transmission Spectra) will be used for microstructure including crystalline phase, lattice strain, crystallite size, texture evaluation.

This paper reviews progress of technologies on ultra-high-speed image sensors with in-situ CCD signal storage. The CCD storage for each pixel has more than one hundred CCD memory elements. Simultaneous parallel recording of signals at all pixels enables ultra-high-speed capturing of consecutive images.

This report summarizes the two-year (2007-2009) activities of Korea-Japan collaboration of chopper software development. Here we have described the background of the collaboration and the main part of our work. We also discussed briefly a future plan of our collaboration starting in 2010. Some of detailed description on the management of the collaboration as well as related information is given in appendix.

Yb(
C,4n) reaction at a beam energy of 65MeV. Previously known 1-quasiparticle bands have been extended to higher spins. New high-
bands based on 3- and 5-quasiparticle excitation have been identified. Nilsson configurations are assigned based on the g-factors deduced from M1/E2 branching ratios within the bands. In addition, a new isomer at 5008keV has been found with a half-life of 18(2) ns. The hindrance in decays of the high-
intrinsic states are discussed in terms of the
tunneling model where the low-
and high-
states interact through the triaxial shape fluctuation.

In this research report we describe the design of DYANA, a new neutron spectrometer dedicated for biology, biomaterials, and related soft-matter studies, which will be installed in the material and life science experimental facility project at the JAERI Tokai establishment. The DYANA spectrometer is an indirect-geometry crystal-analyzer instrument and its energy and momentum transfer range are from several 10eV to several meV and from 0.1
to several
, respectively. These specifications will become possible to do the study of protein dynamics analysis.
