The MMX InfraRed Spectrometer (MIRS) is an imaging spectrometer on board of MMX JAXA mission. MIRS is built at LESIA-Paris Observatory in collaboration with four other French laboratories, collaboration and financial support of CNES and close collaboration with JAXA and MELCO. The instrument is designed to fully accomplish MMX's scientific and measurement objectives. MIRS will remotely provide near-infrared spectral maps of Phobos and Deimos containing compositional diagnostic spectral features that will be used to analyze the surface composition and to support the sampling site selection. MIRS will also study Mars atmosphere, in particular to spatial and temporal changes such as clouds, dust and water vapor.

We have developed a new Fermi chopper referred to as Magic chopper to realize the full optimization of the experimental condition for Multi-Ei method in a chopper spectrometer. In this study, the theoretical aspects of MAGIC chopper concept will be initially presented, and the performances of MAGIC chopper will be evaluated by both Monte Carlo simulation and neutron transmission experiment.

We present the neutron scattering study of superionic glass (LiI)$$_{0.3}$$(LiPO$$_{3}$$)$$_{0.7}$$ by using the inelastic neutron spectrometer AMATERAS at J-PARC. From the inelastic scattering, low energy excitation or the Boson Peak appears at $$sim$$ 6.5 meV. The extra quasielastic scattering was observed in the energy range 1 meV $$<$$ E $$<$$ 3 meV at 285 K but not at 20 K. The Q dependence of the dynamical structure factor S(Q,E) can be approximated to the long-wave acoustic like density fluctuation.

The efficiency of inelastic neutron scattering measurements using a chopper spectrometer can be markedly improved by utilizing multiple incident energies (Multi-Ei method). However, in conventional chopper systems, optimization of the experimental condition for all incident energies is absolutely impossible. We developed a new Fermi chopper with a supermirror-coated slit package in order to overcome the problem and experimentally demonstrated that the full optimization of the experimental condition for multiple incident energies is nearly achieved.

Progress of ultra-high-speed image sensors with in-situ CCD storage

Eto, Takeharu*; Dao, V. T. S.*; Nguyen, H. D.*; Fife, K.*; Kureta, Masatoshi; Segawa, Mariko; Arai, Masatoshi; Shinohara, Takenao

Proceedings of 2011 International Image Sensor Workshop (IISW), 4 Pages, 2011/06

This paper reviews progress of technologies on ultra-high-speed image sensors with in-situ CCD signal storage. The CCD storage for each pixel has more than one hundred CCD memory elements. Simultaneous parallel recording of signals at all pixels enables ultra-high-speed capturing of consecutive images.

We report detailed spectroscopic studies performed for the secondary star in the black hole binary (micro-quasar) V4641 Sgr in order to examine its surface chemical composition and to see if its surface shows any signature of pollution by ejecta from a supernova explosion. We obtain abundances of 10 elements and find definite over-abundances of N (by 0.8 dex or more) and Na (by 0.8 dex) in V4641 Sgr. From line-by-line comparisons of eight other elements (C, O, Mg, Al, Si, Ti, Cr, Fe) between V4641 Sgr and the two normal late B-type stars, which have been reported to have solar abundances. An evolutionary model of a massive close binary system has been constructed to explain the abundances observed in V4641 Sgr. The model suggests that the BH forming supernova in this system was a dark one.

This papaer studies on tokamak plasma start-up completely without central solenoid (CS). On the JT-60 tokamak it is demonstrated that a completely CS-less Ip start-up to 100 kA was achieved even without any null-point by Electron cyclotron range of frequencies (ECRF) and outer PF coil current swing only. Necessary conditions (the EC power, the toroidal field etc.) were clarified. Moreover, it was succeded to maintain Ip = 260kA for 1 sec without CS by NB only. In addition Ip ramp-up by EC and NB only (without LHCD) from 215 to 310kA was achieved. In a high confinement reversed shear discharge, a result suggesting bootstrap over drive was obtained.
