The MMX InfraRed Spectrometer (MIRS) is an imaging spectrometer on board of MMX JAXA mission. MIRS is built at LESIA-Paris Observatory in collaboration with four other French laboratories, collaboration and financial support of CNES and close collaboration with JAXA and MELCO. The instrument is designed to fully accomplish MMX's scientific and measurement objectives. MIRS will remotely provide near-infrared spectral maps of Phobos and Deimos containing compositional diagnostic spectral features that will be used to analyze the surface composition and to support the sampling site selection. MIRS will also study Mars atmosphere, in particular to spatial and temporal changes such as clouds, dust and water vapor.

Here we report observations of Ryugu's subsurface material by the Near-Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) on the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. Reflectance spectra of excavated material exhibit a hydroxyl (OH) absorption feature that is slightly stronger and peak-shifted compared with that observed for the surface, indicating that space weathering and/or radiative heating have caused subtle spectral changes in the uppermost surface. However, the strength and shape of the OH feature still suggests that the subsurface material experienced heating above 300 $$^{circ}$$C, similar to the surface. In contrast, thermophysical modeling indicates that radiative heating does not increase the temperature above 200 $$^{circ}$$C at the estimated excavation depth of 1 m, even if the semimajor axis is reduced to 0.344 au. This supports the hypothesis that primary thermal alteration occurred due to radiogenic and/or impact heating on Ryugu's parent body.

To investigate the main factors that control the dissolved radiocesium concentration in river water in the area affected by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, the correlations between the dissolved $$^{137}$$Cs concentrations at 66 sites normalized to the average $$^{137}$$Cs inventories for the watersheds with the land use, soil components, topography, and water quality factors were assessed. We found that the topographic wetness index is significantly and positively correlated with the normalized dissolved $$^{137}$$Cs concentration. Similar positive correlations have been found for European rivers because wetland areas with boggy organic soils that weakly retain $$^{137}$$Cs are mainly found on plains. However, for small Japanese river watersheds, the building area ratio in the watershed strongly affected the dissolved $$^{137}$$Cs concentration.

The near-Earth asteroid 162173 Ryugu, the target of Hayabusa2 sample return mission, is believed to be a primitive carbonaceous object. The Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) on Hayabusa2 acquired reflectance spectra of Ryugu's surface to provide direct measurements of the surface composition and geological context for the returned samples. A weak, narrow absorption feature centered at 2.72 micron was detected across the entire observed surface, indicating that hydroxyl (OH)-bearing minerals are ubiquitous there. The intensity of the OH feature and low albedo are similar to thermally- and/or shock-metamorphosed carbonaceous chondrite meteorites. There are few variations in the OH-band position, consistent with Ryugu being a compositionally homogeneous rubble-pile object generated from impact fragments of an undifferentiated aqueously altered parent body.

We have conducted ground-based performance evaluation tests of the Near-Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) onboard Hayabusa2 spacecraft and established a method for evaluating its measured reflectance spectra. Reflectance spectra of nine powdered carbonaceous chondrite samples were measured by both NIRS3 and a FT-IR spectrometer. Since raw data obtained by NIRS3 had considerable spectral distortion caused by systematic offsets in sensitivity of individual pixels, we have established two methods for correcting the NIRS3 data by comparing them with the corresponding FT-IR data. In order to characterize the absorption bands in NIRS3 spectra, the depth of each band component D$$lambda$$ is defined for each wavelength $$lambda$$ ($$mu$$m). Reflectance spectra of asteroid Ryugu, the target asteroid of Hayabusa2, to be recorded by the NIRS3 are expected to reveal the characteristics of the surface materials by using the evaluation technique.

NIRS3: The Near Infrared Spectrometer is installed on the Hayabusa2 spacecraft to observe the target C-type asteroid 162173 Ryugu at near infrared wavelengths of 1.8 to 3.2 micrometer. It aims to obtain reflectance spectra in order to detect absorption bands of hydrated and hydroxide minerals in the 3 micrometer-band. We adopted a linear-image sensor with indium arsenide (InAs) photo diodes and a cooling system with a passive radiator to achieve an optics temperature of 188 K, which enables to retaining sufficient sensitivity and noise level in the 3 micrometer wavelength region. We conducted ground performance tests for the NIRS3 flight model (FM) to confirm its baseline specifications. The results imply that the properties such as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conform to scientific requirements to determine the degree of aqueous alteration, such as CM or CI chondrite, and the stage of thermal metamorphism on the asteroid surface.

We are attempting to reveal uplift/denudation history of the Yoro-Suzuka-Nunobiki mountains, southwest Japan, by using apatite fission-track (AFT) thermochronology. We obtained AFT ages of 47-30 Ma. The ages are younger in the central and southern part of the Suzuka Range and get older to the north and south. Inverse thermal modeling based on the AFT ages and lengths indicates the difference among the ages reflect amount of denudation accommodate with the mountains uplifting in the past few million years. These results imply the process of the mountain uplifting of this area is more complicated than the developments of the basins propagating from south to north.

C-face interface defects in 4H-SiC MOSFETs studied by electrically detected magnetic resonance

Interface defects of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductors (MOSFETs) fabricated on Carbone (C) face 4H-SiC were investigated by Electrically Detected Magnet Resistance (EDMR). Gate oxide of the MOSFETs was formed by either wet-oxidation and H$$_{2}$$ annealing or dry-oxidation. The values of channel mobility for MOSFETS with wet gate oxide and dry gate oxide are less than 1 and 90 cm$$^{2}$$/Vs, respectively. By EDMR measurement under low temperature (less than 20 K), EDMR signals related to C were detected. The peak height of the signals increased with increasing $$gamma$$-ray doses, and the channel mobility decreased. From this result, it is assumed that hydrogen atoms passivating C dangling bonds are released by $$gamma$$-rays and the channel mobility decreases with increasing the C related defects.

SiC is regarded as a promising candidate for electronic devices used in harsh radiation environments because of its high radiation tolerance. Radiation effects on SiC devices are reviewed. Firstly, the Total Ionizing Dose (TID) effect in Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS) Field Effect Transistors (FETs) is introduced. Then, the radiation hardness of SiC based transistors such as MOSFETs, Metal-Semiconductor (MES) FETs, Static Induction Transistors (SITs) is discussed from the point of view of $$gamma$$-ray irradiation effects. Transient current induced in SiC pn diodes by heavy ions incidence, which is important information on the single event effects (SEEs), is also expressed.

In JT-60U, erosion/deposition analyses for the plasma facing wall have shown that deposition was dominant at the inner-middle first wall and the inner divertor, whereas erosion dominant at the upper first wall and the outer divertor. Assuming toroidal symmetry in the erosion and deposition patterns, the net carbon erosion and deposition in the divertor area were estimated to be 0.34 kg and 0.55 kg, respectively. In a whole, the increment of carbon in the divertor region was 0.21 kg, which should be originated from the first wall. The hydrogen concentration in the thick deposition layer of the inner divertor was 0.02 in (H+D)/C. In the plasma-shadowed area underneath the divertor region at around 420 K, re-deposited layers of 2 $$mu$$m-thick were found with high hydrogen concentration of 0.8 in (H+D)/C. The carbon deposition rate in the plasma-shadowed area, however, was 8$$times$$10$$^{19}$$ atoms/s, which was one order smaller than that (6$$times$$10$$^{20}$$ atoms/s) on the wall surface.

Evaluation of fuel inventory and its retention process are critical issues for a next-step fusion device, especially with carbon-based wall. In order to resolve the issues, the hydrogen retention and carbon deposition analyses for the plasma facing surfaces and plasma-shadowed area of JT-60U have been performed. In JT-60U, erosion/deposition analyses for the plasma facing wall have shown that deposition was dominant at the inner-middle first wall and the inner divertor, whereas erosion dominant at the upper first wall and the outer divertor.
