We propose a new Standard DNA Damage (SDD) data format to unify the interface between the simulation of damage induction in DNA and the biological modelling of DNA repair processes, and introduce the effect of the environment (molecular oxygen or other compounds) as a flexible parameter. Such a standard greatly facilitates inter-model comparisons, providing an ideal environment to tease out model assumptions and identify persistent, underlying mechanisms. Through inter-model comparisons, this unified standard has the potential to greatly advance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of radiation-induced DNA damage and the resulting observable biological effects when radiation parameters and/or environmental conditions change.

The ENDF/B-VII.1 library is our latest recommended evaluated nuclear data file for use in nuclear science and technology applications, and incorporates advances made in the five years since the release of ENDF/B-VII.0. These advances focus on neutron cross sections, covariances, fission product yields and decay data, and represent work by the US Cross Section Evaluation Working Group (CSEWG) in nuclear data evaluation that utilizes developments in nuclear theory, modeling, simulation, and experiment. It features extension of covered nuclei, covariance data for 190 nuclei, R-matrix analyses of neutron reactions on light nuclei, updates for some medium-heavy and actinoid nuclei, etc. Criticality benchmark tests with a transport simulation code MCNP shows improved performances.

A stable ion beam extraction of the LPIS-1 was achieved up to 85 kV/32 A for a 5 s pulse length and 80 kV/25 A for a 14 s pulse length. An optimum beam perveance of 1.15 $$mu$$perv was observed at an acceleration voltage of 60 kV. Neutralization efficiency was measured by a water-flow calorimetry (WFC) method using a calorimeter and the operation of a bending magnet. The full-energy species of ion beams were detected by using the diagnostic method of optical multichannel analyzer (OMA). An arc efficiency of the LPIS was 0.6-1.1 A/kW depending on the operating conditions of arc discharge. A neutral beam power of 1.0 MW must be sufficiently injected into the KSTAR plasmas from the LPIS-1 at a beam energy of 80 keV.

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for $$pi^{pm}, K^{pm}, p$$, and $$bar{p}$$ in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different $$sqrt{s}$$ collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as $$m_T$$ and $$x_T$$ scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in $$p + p$$ collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled $$p+p$$ collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to $$p+p$$ collisions.

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the invariant differential cross section for production of $$K^0_s$$, $$omega$$, $$eta'$$ and $$phi$$ mesons in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. The spectral shapes of all hadron transverse momentum distributions are well described by a Tsallis distribution functional form with only two parameters, $$n$$ and $$T$$, determining the high $$p_T$$ and characterizing the low $$p_T$$ regions for the spectra, respectively. The integrated invariant cross sections calculated from the fitted distributions are found to be consistent with existing measurements and with statistical model predictions.

Epitaxial LiMn$$_{2}$$O$$_{4}$$ thin films with restricted lattice planes (111) and (110) are grown on SrTiO$$_{3}$$ substrates by pulsed laser deposition. In situ SXRD studies have revealed dynamic structural changes that reduce the atomic symmetry at the electrode surface during the initial electrochemical reaction. The surface structural changes commence with the formation of an electric double layer, which is followed by surface reconstruction when a voltage is applied in the first charge process. Transmission electron microscopy images after 10 cycles confirm the formation of a solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer on both the (111) and (110) surfaces and Mn dissolution from the (110) surface. The (111) surface is more stable than the (110) surface. The electrode stability of LiMn$$_{2}$$O$$_{4}$$ depends on the reaction rate of SEI formation and the stability of the reconstructed surface structure.

The characteristics of 316LN welded joints produced by different welding wires were studied through temperature and field dependent magnetization measurements. The magnetic permeability of welded joints showed significant variations depending on the used welding wires. While the self-welded and low-Mn content filler-welded samples showed signs of secondary phase formation, considerable suppression of the secondary phase formation was observed in high-Mn content filler-welded samples. It is concluded that the high-Mn content welding wire is the best one for use in ITER superconducting magnets because its structure is very stable austenite.

We study polyamorphism of B$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ glass using X-ray diffraction up to 10 GPa in the 300-700 K temperature range, in situ volumetric measurements up to 9 GPa, and first-principles simulations. The glass undergoes two-stage transformations under pressure including a gradual increase of the first B-O (O-B) coordination numbers above 5 GPa. The fraction of boron atoms in the fourfold-coordinated state at P$$<$$10 GPa is smaller than was assumed from inelastic X-ray scattering spectroscopy data, but is considerably larger than was previously suggested by the classical molecular dynamics simulations. The observed transformations under both compression and decompression are broad in hydrostatic conditions.

An 84-GHz, 500-kW gyrotron system have been installed at KSTAR, and the initial test of the gyrotron has been carried out with 20 $$mu$$sec-pulse and an output RF power of 500 kW. The launcher system having with a highly flexible steering mirror was fabricated and would inject 500-kW rf power into the KSTAR plasma. KSTAR will employ 170-GHz EC current drive (CD) in ITER-relevant experiments such as the suppression of the neoclassical tearing modes and the creation of an electron internal transport barrier. A JAEA 170-GHz, 1-MW gyrotron on loan in accordance with a Korea-Japan fusion collaboration agreement, and it will be used for the 170-GHz, 1-MW ECCD system in 2010. This paper describes the current status of the installation and initial conditioning tests of the 84-GHz gyrotron system as well as the development plan of the 170-GHz ECH and CD system. Also, this paper discusses the CD efficiency and the steering range of the second-harmonic X-mode injection.

The JMTR in JAEA and HANARO in KAERI are the foremost testing/research reactors in the world and these are expected to contribute to many nuclear fields. As a part of instrument development in irradiation field, information exchange of instruments started from 2010 under the cooperation agreements between KAERI and JAEA. To get measurement data with high accuracy for fuel and material behavior studies in irradiation tests, many types of measuring equipments have been developed; these are the multi-paired thermocouples, the Linear Voltage Differential Transformer (LVDT) type gas pressure gauge and Self-Powered Neutron Detector (SPND). In this presentation, the instruments developed in JMTR and HANARO are introduced and cooperation experiments as future plan are discussed for international standardization of the instruments in the Material Testing Reactors.
