A number of radiogenically produced dysprosium isotopes have been studied by in-source laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE using the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS). Isotope shifts were measured relative to $$^{152}$$Dy in the $$4f^{10}6s^{2}~^{5}I_{8}$$ (gs) $$rightarrow$$ $$4f^{10}6s6p~(8,1)^{0}_{8}$$ (418.8 nm $$_{rm VAC}$$)resonance transition. The electronic factor, $$F$$, and mass shift factor, M, were extracted and used for determining the changes in mean-squared charge radii for $$^{rm 145m}$$Dy and $$^{rm 147m}$$Dy for the first time.

The $$alpha$$-decay branching ratio of 0.52(5)% from the ground state of $$^{180}$$Pt to the ground state of the daughter nucleus $$^{176}$$Os has been determined more precisely than before. The $$^{180}$$Pt was produced as the $$beta$$-decay granddaughter of $$^{180}$$Hg which was produced and separated with the CERN-ISOLDE facility. The reduced $$alpha$$-decay width calculated with the present result has provided a new picture of the systematics for the $$alpha$$-decay width of neutron-deficient Pt isotopes.

The nanometer scale lattice deformation brought about by the dopants in the high temperature superconducting cuprate La$$_{2-x}$$Sr$$_{x}$$CuO$$_{4}$$ $$(x=0.08)$$ was investigated by measuring the associated X-ray diffuse scattering around multiple Bragg peaks. Our results address the long-term concern of dopant introduced local lattice inhomogeneity, and show that the associated nanometer scale lattice deformation is marginal and cannot be responsible for the patched variation in the spectral gaps observed with scanning tunneling microscopy in the cuprates.

High-spin states of $$^{190}$$Pt have been reinvestigated using the $$^{176}$$Yb($$^{18}$$O, 4$$n$$) reaction at a beam energy of 88 MeV. The previously known positive parity band associated with the $$nu$$ $$i^{-2}_{13/2}$$ $$nu$$ $$h^{-1}_{9/2}$$ $$nu$$ $$j^{-1}$$ ($$nu j$$ being $$nu p_{3/2}$$ or $$nu f_{5/2}$$) configuration has been revised and extended significantly. A new negative parity band has been established and proposed to be based on the $$nu$$ $$i^{-3}_{13/2}$$ $$nu$$ $$j^{-1}$$ configuration. Possible structure evolution of the yrast line from predominantly vibrational to rotational with increasing spin is discussed with the help of E$$_gamma$$ over spin curves. Additionally, calculations of Total Routhian surfaces have been performed to investigate the band properties.

High-spin states in $$^{185}$$Pt have been investigated by means of in beam $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopic method at the JAEA tandem facility. Low-spin signature inversion is revealed in the 7/2$$^-$$[503] band. The inversion can be interpreted as a configuration change from the 7/2$$^-$$[503] orbital to the 7/2$$^-$$[514] orbital with increasing spin, which is supported by a theoretical calculation of the semi-classical Donau and Frauendorf approach.

The electron cyclotron (EC), ion cyclotron (IC), neutral beam (NB) and, lower hybrid (LH) systems for ITER have been reviewed in 2007/2008 in light of progress of physics and technology. Although the overall specifications are unchanged, notable changes have been approved. Firstly, the full 73MW should be commissioned and available on a routine basis before the D/T phase. Secondly, the possibility to operate the NB at full power during the hydrogen phase requiring new shine through protection; IC with 2 antennas with increased robustness; 2 MW transmission systems to provide an easier upgrading of the EC power; the addition of a building dedicated to the RF power sources and to a testing facility for acceptance of diagnostics and heating port plugs. Thirdly, the need of a plan for developing, in time for the active phase, a CD system such as LH suitable for very long pulse operation of ITER was recognized.
