In this work, time-dependent calculations of plasma kinetics are used to show that it is possible only when low-density gaseous targets with sufficiently small clusters are used. In the case of Ar plasma, the upper limit of the cluster radius was estimated to be m.

In this present study, we present the J45 pregnant female phantoms in both a kneeling and lying posture, and assess the dosimetric impact of these more anatomically realistic survivor models in comparisons to current organ doses given by the DS02 system. For the kneeling phantoms facing the bomb hypocenter, organ doses from bomb source photon spectra were shown to be overestimated by the DS02 system by up to a factor of 1.45 for certain fetal organs and up to a factor of 1.17 for maternal organs. For lying phantoms with their feet in the direction of the hypocenter, fetal organ doses from bomb source photon spectra were underestimated by the DS02 system by factors as low as 0.77 while maternal organ doses were overestimated by up to a factor of 1.38. Results from this study highlight the degree to which the existing DS02 system can differ from organ dosimetry based upon 3D radiation transport simulations using more anatomically realistic models of those survivors exposed during pregnancy while in a kneeling or lying position.

Mo). Production of
Mo via the neutron capture method draws attention as an alternative to fission-derived
Mo due to non-proliferation issues, but the specific radioactivity of
Mo is extremely low. In this work, a porous
-MoO
wire was prepared as an irradiation target in order to improve the specific activity by extracting
Mo. Porous
-MoO
wire is synthesized from Mo metal wire by a two-step heating procedure. The hot atom effect of
Mo was confirmed by activity and isotope measurements of the porous
-MoO
wire after neutron irradiation and the water used for extraction. In term of the extraction effectiveness, the effectiveness of
Mo extraction in the porous
-MoO
wire was comparable to that of commercial
-MoO
powder.

Tc is a daughter product of the
Mo isotope. There are two methods used to produce
Mo/
Tc: the nuclear fission (n,f) and the neutron capture (n,
) methods. Between them, the (n,f) method is the main route, used for approximately 90% of the world's production. However, the (n,f) method faces numerous problems, including the use of highly enriched uranium, the release of highly radioactive waste, and nonproliferation problems. Therefore, the (n,
) method is being developed as a future replacement for the (n,f) method. In this work,
-MoO
whiskers prepared by the thermal evaporation method and
-MoO
particles were irradiated in a nuclear reactor to produce
Mo/
Tc via neutron capture. The irradiated targets were dispersed into water to extract the
Mo/
Tc. As a result,
-MoO
whisker yielded higher
Mo extraction rate than that from
-MoO
. In addition, by comparing the dissolved
Mo concentrations in water, we clarified a prominent hot-atom of
-MoO
whiskers. This research is the first demonstration of
-MoO
being used as an irradiation target in the neutron capture method. On the basis of the results,
-MoO
is considered a promising irradiation target for producing
Mo/
Tc by neutron capture and using water for the radioisotope extraction process in the future.

Ca, a
ray transition was measured to be 1456(12) keV, while for
Ca an indication for a transition was observed at 1115(34) keV. Both transitions were tentatively assigned as the
decays. A shell-model calculation in a wide model space with a marginally modified effective nucleon-nucleon interaction depicts excellent agreement with experiment for
level energies, two-neutron separation energies, and reaction cross sections, corroborating the formation of a new nuclear shell above the N = 34 shell. Its constituents, the

Ca and potentially drives the dripline of Ca isotopes to
Ca or even beyond.

Ne has been performed using the one-neutron removal reaction from
Ne. Based on an analysis of parallel momentum distributions, a level scheme with spin-parity assignments has been constructed for
Ne and the negative-parity states are identified for the first time. The measured partial cross sections and momentum distributions reveal a significant intruder p-wave strength providing evidence of the breakdown of the N = 20 and N = 28 shell gaps. Only a weak, possible f-wave strength was observed to bound final states. Large-scale shell-model calculations with different effective interactions do not reproduce the large p-wave and small f-wave strength observed experimentally, indicating an ongoing challenge for a complete theoretical description of the transition into the island of inversion along the Ne isotopic chain.

In this present study, we extend this work using realistic angular fluences from the DS02 system for up to nine different radiation categories and five shielding conditions. General findings are that the current DS02 fetal dose surrogate overestimates values of fetal organ dose seen in the J45 phantoms towards the cranial end of the fetus, especially in the later stages of pregnancy. This work supports our previous findings that the J45 pregnant female phantom series offers significate opportunities for gestational age-dependent assessment of fetal organ dose without the need to invoke the uterine wall as a fetal organ surrogate.

It is shown that the inelastic scattering and nucleon transfer, usually neglected at such energy regime, contribute about 50% and 30% to the loosely bound proton and deeply bound neutron removal, respectively.

Thorium and uranium were selectively recovered in a hydrometallurgical circuit established by continuous mixer-settler extraction, scrubbing, and back-extraction at the laboratory scale. The desired purity of Th and U can be achieved by managing the volume ratio of organic to aqueous phase (O/A ratio) in the corresponding steps. Highly pure Th and U were recovered from the pregnant back-extraction liquor and the raffinate, respectively, which have satisfactory properties for further processing of the subsequent nuclear materials.
