Heat-current-induced manipulation of spin relaxation in Y$$_3$$Fe$$_5$$O$$_{12}$$ under an in-plane temperature gradient is investigated. We show that the linewidth of the ferromagnetic resonance spectrum, i.e., the spin relaxation, in an Y$$_3$$Fe$$_5$$O$$_{12}$$ film increases or decreases depending on the temperature-gradient direction and that this modulation is attributed to the spin-transfer torque caused by a thermally induced transverse spin-wave spin current in the Y$$_3$$Fe$$_5$$O$$_{12}$$ film. The experimental results also show that the spin-current magnitude generated by spin pumping in an attached Pt film is inversely proportional to the square of the modulated Gilbert damping constant, consistent with a phenomenological spin-pumping model.

In the Horonobe Underground Laboratory (URL) Project, Construction of the Ventilation Shaft, the East Shaft and the drifts has been conducted as a Phase 2 research. In the research, observation of the lithofacies and fracture, and in-situ tests, simple elastic wave exploration, Schmidt hammer test, Equotip test, point load test are conducted in each face, and measuring instruments such as extensometer, rock-bolt axial force meter, shotcrete stress meter and tunnel lining concrete stress meter are installed in particular face. In addition, for the purpose of the validation of the results of predictive analysis, conducted in Phase 1, about the amount of spring water during construction of Underground facilities, data on the changes of amount of spring water and water quality is obtained. This report summarizes the measurements data acquired at the Ventilation Shaft (GL -161m $$sim$$ -250m), the East Shaft (GL -110m $$sim$$ -140m) and the 140m drift.

The shafts and drifts of the Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory Project have been constructed by JAEA. The construction method of shaft is a short step method. The East Shaft of excavation system is the blasting excavation, and the Ventilation Shaft is the machine excavation. At the present, The East Shaft has ended to G.L.-140.5 m and Ventilation Shaft has ended to G.L.-210.5 m at the end of July, 2008. The difference in depth change or a excavation system was analyzed about the excavation time which occupies about 40% of the cycle time of each shaft. This paper reports the outline of the construction track record of the shafts and the result of having analyzed cycle time paying attention to excavation time.
