Search for $$alpha$$ decay of $$^{104}$$Te with a novel recoil-decay scintillation detector

A search for super-allowed $$alpha$$ decay of N=Z nuclei $$^{104}$$Te and $$^{108}$$Xe was carried out using a novel recoil-decay scintillator detector at the tandem accelerator facility at Japan Atomic Energy Agency. Inorganic crystal scintillation material of YAP:Ce (Yttrium Aluminium Perovskite) coupled to position-sensitive photo-multiplier tube (PSPMT) was implemented for the first time in a radioactive decay experiment. Residues from the fusion-evaporation reaction $$^{58}$$Ni+$$^{54}$$Fe$$rightarrow$$ $$^{112}$$Xe$$^*$$ were separated by the JAEA Recoil Mass Separator (RMS) and implanted into the YAP:Ce crystal. $$alpha$$ decays of neutron-deficient tellurium isotopes were identified and proton-emission of $$^{109}$$I was observed. No conclusive evidence was found for the decay chain $$^{108}$$Xe$$rightarrow$$$$^{104}$$Te$$rightarrow$$ $$^{100}$$Sn within 3 days experiment. The cross section limit of 130 pb was obtained for production of two events of $$^{108}$$Xe, about an order of magnitude below the expectation based on earlier cross section measurements and HIVAP calculations.

Low-lying neutron-hole states in $$^{131}$$Sn were populated via the $$^{132}$$Sn(d,t) reaction at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The triton angular distributions were compared to DWBA calculations and revealed spectroscopic factors compatible with a single-hole nature of the states populated. The data permit to determine the spin-orbit splitting of the strongly bound $$d_{3/2}$$ and $$d_{5/2}$$ neutron orbits below the shell gap, which was compared to the splitting of the weakly bound 3$$p$$ and 2$$f$$ orbits above the gap. The comparison revealed a smaller energy splitting of the 3$$p$$ orbits. All splittings were reproduced using Woods-Saxon calculations, and the lower splitting of the 3$$p$$ orbits was explained to arise from the large radial extent of the wavefunction and small value of the amplitude at the surface. This result is important to understand at a fundamental level the spin-orbit interaction, and its effects on neutron-rich nuclei.

$$^{48}$$Ca + $$^{243}$$Am反応による115番元素合成実験で観測された$$alpha$$崩壊連鎖について、最近我々が報告したドイツGSIで測定したデータと過去に報告されたロシアDubna及び米国LBNLで測定されたデータのすべてを使い、その起源を調査した。それらのデータの中に、反跳核-$$alpha$$-($$alpha$$)-核分裂タイプの短い崩壊連鎖が14事象観測されており、そのうちのいくつかは中性子が2個放出されてできる$$^{289}$$Mc起源であるとこれまで解釈されてきた。一方、今回我々は、これらの短い崩壊連鎖のほとんどが、中性子が3個放出されてできる$$^{288}$$Mc起源であり、崩壊連鎖の途中でEC崩壊して核分裂したものであろうと再同定した。

Magnons are the elementary excitations of a magnetically ordered system. Here, we show that the spin Seebeck effect is sensitive to the complexities of the magnon spectrum. The spin Seebeck effect is caused by a thermally excited spin dynamics that is converted to a voltage by the inverse spin Hall effect at the interface to a heavy metal contact. By investigating the temperature dependence of the spin Seebeck effect in the ferrimagnet gadlinium iron garnet, with a magnetic compensation point near room temperature, we demonstrate that high-energy exchange magnons play a key role in the spin Seebeck effect.

115番元素の$$alpha$$崩壊連鎖を30事象観測し、過去に$$^{288}$$115同位体として報告されている$$alpha$$崩壊連鎖と矛盾しないことを見出した。GEANT4モンテカルロシミュレーションにより高分解能$$alpha$$-光子同時計数実験結果の再現を試みた。この解析手法により、超重核のQ$$_{alpha}$$値や励起準位構造を精度よく導出できるようになる。

We carried out a concerted effort to determine the absolute sign of the inverse spin Hall effect voltage generated by spin currents injected into a normal metal. We focus on yttrium iron garnet (YIG)|platinum bilayers at room temperature, generating spin currents by microwaves and temperature gradients. We find consistent results for different samples and measurement setups that agree with theory. We suggest a right-hand-rule to define a positive spin Hall angle corresponding to the voltage expected for the simple case of scattering of free electrons from repulsive Coulomb charges.

115番元素の$$alpha$$崩壊連鎖測定に使用した焦点面Si検出器のセットアップと検出器プリアンプ出力のデジタル波形解析の結果及び検出器不感層による$$alpha$$線エネルギー損失の事象毎の補正解析の結果について報告する。$$alpha$$線検出器は、両面分割型Siストリップ検出器(DSSSD)5枚を箱型に配置し、115番元素を打ち込む底面検出器の片面の信号をデジタル波形解析した。底面検出器と側面検出器の2枚のSi検出器で検出された$$alpha$$線は、2枚の不感層を斜めに横切ることから$$alpha$$線エネルギー損失が事象毎に異なる。検出位置から$$alpha$$線の放射角度を求めることで事象毎にエネルギー損失を補正することで$$alpha$$線のエネルギー分解能を大幅に改善することに成功した。

$$^{48}$$Caビームと$$^{243}$$Am標的との核反応で115番元素の同位体を合成し、$$alpha$$崩壊連鎖を30事象観測した。観測された崩壊連鎖は過去に115番元素のものとして報告されたものと矛盾が無く、115番元素の同定を再確認した。また$$alpha$$線と光子との同時計数測定を合わせて行い、115番元素の$$alpha$$崩壊連鎖上に位置する超重核の$$gamma$$線およびX線の候補を観測した。最も重い超重核領域での$$gamma$$線の観測は、超重核の核構造研究に大きな進歩をもたらすものである。

A high-resolution X-ray and $$alpha$$-ray coincidence spectroscopy experiment was conducted at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum f$"u$r Schwerionenforschung. Thirty correlated decay chains were detected following the fusion-evaporation reaction $$^{48}$$Ca + $$^{243}$$Am. The observations are consistent with previous assignments of similar decay chains to originate from element Z = 115. For the first time, precise spectroscopy allows the derivation of excitation schemes of isotopes along the decay chains starting with elements Z $$>$$ 112. Comprehensive Monte-Carlo simulations accompany the data analysis. Nuclear structure models provide a first level interpretation.

強磁性絶縁体/Ptと強磁性絶縁体/常磁性金属/Pt複合素子において、スピンHall磁気抵抗効果の定量測定を行った。強磁性絶縁体にはイットリウム鉄ガーネット,ニッケルフェライト,マグネタイトを用い、常磁性中間層には銅、金を用いた。以上により、薄い中間層にかかわらず、Pt層のスピンHall効果と逆スピンHall効果の複合によって強磁性層の磁化方向に依存した磁気抵抗効果が生じるというスピンHall磁気抵抗効果の理論の正当性が実験的に確認された。スピンHall磁気抵抗効果の理論を援用することで、4$$times10^{14}Omega^{-1}$$m$$^{-2}$$のスピンミキシングコンダクタンスを持つサンプルに対して、PtのスピンHall角とスピン拡散長がそれぞれ、$$0.11pm0.08, 1.5pm0.5$$nmと得られた。

Knowledge of single-particle energies in the vicinity of exotic doubly-magic nuclei is of critical importance to understand evolution of nuclear structure. In the present work, the $$^{132}$$Sn(d,t)$$^{131}$$Sn reaction (Q=-1.055 MeV) was studied in inverse kinematics at HRIBF of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The $$^{132}$$Sn ISOL beam was post-accelerated to an energy of 4.39 MeV/u using the ORNL HRIBF accelerator. The beam (average intensity of $$sim$$1.2e4 pps) impinged on a $$sim$$250 $$mu$$g/cm$$^{2}$$ deuterated polyethylene target, for approximately 4 days. Ejected tritons were detected using the Super ORRUBA array of segmented Si telescopes. Low-lying states in $$^{131}$$Sn were populated in the experiment. Preliminary results will be shown.
