Luminescent materials that simultaneously embody bright singlet and triplet excitons hold great potential in optoelectronics, signage, and information encryption. However, achieving high-performance white-light emission is severely hampered by their inherent unbalanced contribution of fluorescence and phosphorescence. Herein, we address this challenge by pressure treatment engineering via hydrogen bonding cooperativity effect to realize the mixture of n-$$pi^*/pi$$-$$pi^*$$ transitions, where the triplet state emission was boosted from 7% to 40% in isophthalic acid (IPA). A superior white-light emission based on hybrid fluorescence and phosphorescence was harvested in pressure-treated IPA, and the photoluminescence quantum yield was increased to 75% from the initial 19% (blue-light emission). In-situ high-pressure IR spectra, X ray diffraction, and neutron diffraction reveal continuous strengthening of the hydrogen bonds with the increase of pressure. Furthermore, this enhanced hydrogen bond is retained down to the ambient conditions after pressure treatment, awarding the targeted IPA efficient intersystem crossing for balanced singlet/triplet excitons population and resulting in efficient white-light emission. This work not only proposes a route for brightening triplet states in organic small molecule, but also regulates the ratio of singlet and triplet excitons to construct high-performance white-light emission.

The CIELO collaboration has studied neutron cross sections on nuclides ($$^{16}$$O, $$^{56}$$Fe, $$^{235,238}$$U and $$^{239}$$Pu) that significantly impact criticality in nuclear technologies with the aim of improving the accuracy of the data and resolving previous discrepancies in our understanding. This multi-laboratory pilot project, coordinated via the OECD/NEA Working Party on Evaluation Cooperation (WPEC) Subgroup 40 with support also from the IAEA, has motivated experimental and theoretical work and led to suites of new evaluated libraries that accurately reflect measured data and also perform well in integral simulations of criticality.

3-Nitrotyrosine (3-NT) has been reported as an important biomarker of oxidative stress and potential source of reactive oxygen species (ROSs). In this work, the UV-visible absorption spectra of the transients formed by hydrated electron (e$$_{rm aq}$$$$^{-}$$) reacting with 3-NT and its derivatives were investigated, the spectra showed many characteristics of aromatic nitro anion radical. The reaction rate constants of e$$_{rm aq}$$$$^{-}$$ reacting with 3-NT, N-acetyl-3-nitrotyrosine ethyl ester (NANTE) and nitrotyrosine-containing peptide Gly-nitroTyr-Gly at neutral pH were determined, respectively, which were almost two orders of magnitude higher than that of tyrosine and tyrosine-containing peptides. The pH-dependence of e$$_{rm aq}$$$$^{-}$$ decay rate constants in presence of 3-NT was also studied.

The characteristics of $$K$$$$_{alpha}$$ X-ray sources generated by p-polarized femtosecond laser-solid interactions are experimentally studied in the relativistic regime. By use of knife-edge image technique and a single-photon-counting X-ray CCD camera, we obtain the source size, the spectrum and the conversion efficiency of the $$K$$$$_{alpha}$$ X-ray sources. The experimental results show that the conversion efficiency of $$K$$$$_{alpha}$$ photons reaches an optimum value 7.08$$times$$10$$^{-6}$$/sr at the laser intensity of 1.6$$times$$10$$^{18}$$W/cm$$^{2}$$, which is different from the Reich's simulation results. We find that about 10% of laser energy is converted into the forward hot electrons at the laser intensity of 1.6$$times$$10$$^{18}$$W/cm$$^{2}$$.
