We describe encapsulation of mobile proton carriers into defect sites in non-porous coordination polymers. The proton carriers are encapasulated with high mobility and provide high proton conductivity at 150$$^{circ}$$C under anhydrous condition. The high proton conductivity and non-porous nature allow power generation by fuel cell in which CPs are used as electrolyte. To observe defects and mobile proton carriers, we carried out solid-state NMR, XAFS, XRD, and ICP-AES/EA. On the basis of these analyses, we elucidated that the defect sites provide space for mobile uncoordinated H$$_{3}$$PO$$_{4}$$, H$$_{2}$$PO$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$, and H$$_{2}$$O. These mobile carriers play a key role to expand proton hopping path and promote the mobility of all protons in coordination frameworks, leading to high proton conductivity and fuel cell power generation.

We conducted the gene function analysis of the high ethyl caproate producing sake yeast mutant (No.227) generated by ion beam breeding in order to develop a new method for sake yeast screening and find factors contributing the reduced ability to alcohol fermentation. The genome sequences of the No.227 and Kyokai 901 (its parental strain) were determined by a whole-genome shotgun strategy using pyrosequencing method. And the determined sequences were compared with that of the sake yeast strain Kyokai 7, which is characterized by the fermentation properties. Consequently, the No.227 carried mutations in the ${it FAS2}$ and ${it ERR2}$ genes as heterozygous state. It was suggested that these mutations in the ${it FAS2}$ and ${it ERR2}$ genes in the No.227 might be attributed to the high ethyl caproate production and the low alcohol fermentation ability, respectively.

Genome analysis of high ethyl caproate producing sake yeasts generated by ion beam breeding

We analyzed genome sequence of the high ethyl caproate producing sake yeast mutant (No.227) generated by ion beam breeding in order to investigated factors contributing the reduced ability to alcohol fermentation. In the high ethyl caproate producing sake yeast, four pyruvate decarboxylase genes (PDC), six alcohol dehydrogenase genes (ADH), two biotin synthesis genes (BIO) and chitinase gene (CTS1) might be involved in the reduced ability to alcohol fermentation. The genome sequence of the strain No.227 was determined by a whole-genome shotgun strategy using pyrosequencing method and compared with the whole-genome sequence of the sake yeast strain Kyokai 7, which is characterized by the fermentation property, as a reference sequence. For the PDC, ADH, BIO and CTS1 loci, no mutation was found in the strain No.227, suggesting that these genes did not involved in the reduced ability to alcohol fermentation.


High order harmonics from relativistic electron spikes

We provide a description of experiments performed with the J-KAREN and Astra Gemini lasers where we discovered a new regime of relativistic high-order harmonic generation by multi-terawatt femtosecond lasers in gas targets. The results were explained using particle-in-cell simulations and catastrophe theory. Our work paves the way towards a bright coherent X-ray source based on compact lasers and accessible, repetitive, and debris-free gas jet targets. Such a source will be crucial for fundamental research and numerous applications requiring pumping, probing, imaging of microscopic objects and for attosecond science.

We present a detailed description of our discovery of a new regime of high-order harmonic generation, including experimental data, simulations, and description of new harmonic generation mechanism. The harmonics are generated by multi-terawatt relativistic-irradiance ($$>$$ 10$$^{18}$$ W/cm$$^2$$) femtosecond ($$approx$$ 30-50 fs) lasers focused to gas jet targets. According to our model, the harmonics are produced by sharp, structurally stable, oscillating electron spikes at the joint of boundaries of wake and bow waves excited by the laser pulse.

原子力機構では、ITERのECシステムの開発に向け、ITERのPlant Control Design Handbookに準拠したジャイロトロン運転システムのローカル制御システムのプロトタイプ開発を行った。本システムは、ITER CODAC Core Systemを使用して開発し、ジャイロトロン運転システムの状態遷移管理と監視をはじめ、ならびにジャイロトロンの発振のための電源システムのタイミング制御と運転波形収集の機能を実装した。本システムを用いて、ITERのジャイロトロン運転システムに準拠した電源構成にて、ITER用170GHzジャイロトロンの大電力発振シーケンスをITER準拠機材で制御する実証試験を行い、大電力RF発振を確認した。

Relativistic high harmonic generation in gas jet targets

We experimentally demonstrate new regime of high-order harmonic generation by relativistic-irradiance lasers in gas jet targets. Bright harmonics with both the odd and even orders are emitted in the forward direction, while the base harmonic frequency is downshifted. The harmonics are generated by linearly as well as circularly polarized pulses. With the 9 TW laser, the harmonics reach 360 eV, within the "water window" spectral region. Using 120 TW laser producing 40 uJ/sr per harmonic at 120 eV, we demonstrate the photon number scalability. The experimentally demonstrated harmonics cannot be explained by previously known mechanisms. We introduce a novel high-order harmonics generation mechanism, which explains our experimental findings.

We report on novel method to generate ultra-short coherent X-rays using a laser-plasma interaction. Nonlinear interaction of intense laser pulses with plasma creates stable, specific structures such as electron cusps. For example wake waves excited in an underdense plasma by the laser become dense and propagate along with the laser pulse (Flying Mirror). The flying mirror can reflect a counter-propagating laser pulse and directly convert it into high-frequency radiation and compress the pulse. We have conducted experimental results using 9 TW laser with a He gas target. We observed 10$$^{10}$$ photons in the extreme ultra-violet region (12.8-22.0 nm).
