Steam is used to a process and air conditioning in Nuclear fuel Cycle engineering Laboratories (NCL). The steam is used mainly in Reprocessing Plant, and it is supplied by two steam plumbing. A leak occurred from the steam plumbing in November, 2022. As a result of cause investigation, I estimated that it had leaked by a water hammer caused for the trouble of the steam trap.

There are 4-boiler in Nuclear fuel Cycle engineering Laboratories (NCL). These boilers have been operated in the long term over 29 years. There are many water tube as one of many identical components which together make up a boilers. The leakage from water tube have occurred four times in recently. It was presumed that sulfur acid corrosion had caused the leakage. Therefore, to reduce generation of sulfuric acid corrosion, the operation term was changed to long, and regular inspection (non-destructive testing) have been carried out.

In these nuclear facilities, proper management of radioactive materials is required. Then, A -ray spectrometer with four segmentations using small volume CeBr scintillators with a dimension of was developed. The four scintillators were coupled to a multi-anode photomultiplier tube specific to intense radiation fields. We performed the -ray exposure study under Cs and Co radiation fields. Under the Cs radiation field, the relative energy resolution at 1375 mSv/h was the relative energy resolution at 1375 mSv/h was 9.20.05%, 8.00.08%, 8.00.03%, and 9.00.04% for the four channels, respectively.

During the decommissioning, radioactive materials have to be retrieved under proper management. In this study, a small cubic CeBr spectrometer with dimensions of 5 mm 5 mm 5 mm was manufactured to perform -ray spectroscopy under intense -ray fields. Furthermore, thanks to a fast digital process unit and a customized photomultiplier, the device could perform -ray spectroscopy at dose rates of over 1 Sv/h. The energy resolution (FWHM) at 662 keV ranged from 4.4% at 22 mSv/h to 5.2% at 1407 mSv/h for a Cs radiation field. Correspondingly, at 1333 keV, it ranged from 3.1% at 26 mSv/h to 4.2% at 2221 mSv/h for a Co radiation field, which suggested to realize -ray assessment of Cs, Cs, Co, and Eu at dose rates of over 1 Sv/h.

Parity violating effects enhanced by up to 10 times have been observed in several neutron induced compound nuclei. There is a theoretical prediction that time reversal (T) violating effects can also be enhanced in these nuclei implying that T-violation can be searched for by making very sensitive measurements. However, the enhancement factor has not yet been measured in all nuclei. The angular distribution of the (n,) reaction was measured with La by using a germanium detector assembly at J-PARC, and the enhancement factor was obtained. From the result, the measurement time to achieve the most sensitive T-violation search was estimated as 1.4 days, and a 40% polarized La target and a 70% polarized He spin filter whose thickness is 70 atmcm are needed. Therefore high quality He spin filter is developed in JAEA. The measurement result of the (n,) reaction at J-PARC and the development status of the He spin filter will be presented.

As an indicator of wettability, the contact angle between a selective laser melting (SLM) baseplate and the molten Ti was measured by synchrotron X-rays at 30 keV during laser irradiation. As the baseplate temperature increased, the contact angle decreased, down to 28 degrees at a baseplate temperature of 500C. Based on this result, the influence of wettability of a Ti plate fabricated by SLM in a vacuum was investigated. It was revealed that the improvement of wettability by preheating suppressed sputtering generation, and a surface having a small surface roughness was fabricated by SLM in a vacuum.

The neutron instruments suite, installed at the spallation neutron source of the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), is reviewed. MLF has 23 neutron beam ports and 21 instruments are in operation for user programs or are under commissioning. A unique and challenging instrumental suite in MLF has been realized via combination of a high-performance neutron source, optimized for neutron scattering, and unique instruments using cutting-edge technologies. All instruments are/will serve in world-leading investigations in a broad range of fields, from fundamental physics to industrial applications. In this review, overviews, characteristic features, and typical applications of the individual instruments are mentioned.

In emergency situation of nuclear facilities, we need to estimate the radiation dose due to radiation and radioactivity to grasp the influence range of the accident in the early stage. Therefore, we prepare the case studies of dose assessment for public exposure dose and personal exposure dose and contribute them to emergency procedures. This document covers about accidents of nuclear facilities in Nuclear Science Research Institute and past accident of nuclear power plant, and it can be used for inheritance of techniques of emergency dose assessment.

The system can achieve a short response time and high spatial resolution using the individual line readout method. Optical devices have been incorporated in the system for long-distance signal transmission and insulation between a detector head in the neutron shielding and signal processing circuits in the data acquisition room. The detector system exhibits a pulse-pair resolution of 1 s, an average spatial resolution of less than 2 mm full width at half-maximum in the sensitive region, and a two-dimensional homogeneity of 8.3% in all pixels.

Concept of the super-X divertor (SXD) for Demo reactor has an outer divertor leg longer than the conventional divertor, and it extends outboard to increase both the target wetted area and connection length to the outer target (). Equilibrium calculation code, TOSCA, was developed by introducing two parameters, i.e. super-X null radius () and a ratio of the poloidal flux at the super-X null to that at the separatrix (). Some SXD magnetic configurations with minimal number of PFCs located outside toroidal field coil (TFC) were Demonstrated. Locations of the divertor target were also investigated. It was found that the flux expansion can be increased up to 4-10 depending on the target location and , and that SXD has an advantage to increase with . Thus, the divertor plasma temperature is expected to decrease at the same upstream plasma density. On the other hand, large currents for the divertor PFCs were necessary. Other arrangements of PFCs such as (1) larger and (2) inside TFC, can reduce the PFC currents.

The electron pitch factor was optimized by controlling anode voltage within 0.1 s after the start of the operation. By applying this technique, the gyrotron output power of 1.5 MW for 4 s was recorded, for the first time. The reduced collector heat load at 1.5 MW operations was reduced by 20% and it will be acceptable for longer pulse operation. A new gyrotron with an improved mode converter was developed in order to demonstrate reduction of the stray radiation which had limited the pulse length. The stray radiation was reduced to 1/3 of that of the original gyrotron. A conditioning operation of the improved gyrotron is proceeding up to 31 s at 1 MW. These progresses significantly contribute to enhancing the high power and long pulse capability of the ECRF system toward JT 60SA.
