Development of under sodium viewer for next generation sodium-cooled Fast reactor; Imaging test in sodium

Aizawa, Kosuke; Chikazawa, Yoshitaka; Ara, Kuniaki; Yui, Masahiro*; Jinno, Kentaro*; Hiramatsu, Takashi*

Proceedings of 2019 International Congress on Advances in Nuclear Power Plants (ICAPP 2019) (Internet), 7 Pages, 2019/05

Inspection technique in opaque liquid metal coolant is one of important issues for sodium-cooled fast reactors. Various under sodium viewers (USVs), including horizontal USVs for obstacle detection and imaging USVs, have been developed in several research institutes and countries. We aim practical realization of imaging USV which adopts an optical receiving system, which measures the vibration displacement of diaphragm by using a laser as a receiving sensor. This study mainly focuses on the sensitivity improvement of a receiving sensor. An issue for the sensitivity improvement of the receiving sensor is the sound pressure propagation inside the receiving sensor. Prototype tests in the water and sodium were conducted in order to resolve the issue. In addition, imaging experiments in the water and sodium were conducted using the improved receiving sensor. From the results of imaging experiments, the relation between obtained wave profile and the regeneration imaging was confirmed.

Proceedings of International Conference on Fast Reactors and Related Fuel Cycles; Next Generation Nuclear Systems for Sustainable Development (FR-17) (USB Flash Drive), 9 Pages, 2017/06

Inspection in opaque liquid metal coolant is one of important issues for sodium-cooled fast reactors. To facilitate operations and maintenance activities, various under sodium viewers (USVs), including horizontal USVs for obstacle detection for a long distance and imaging USVs for a short and middle distance imaging, have been developed in several research institutes and countries. In this study, an imaging USV for a middle distance, approximately 1 m, has been developed. The USV in this study adopts an optical receiving system which measures the vibration displacement of diaphragm by using a laser as a receiving sensor. This study mainly focuses on the sensitivity improvement for a transmission sensor and the receiving sensor. In addition, an imaging experiment in the water was conducted using the new transmission sensor and receiving sensor. The experimental results showed that the newly developed USV sensors can make higher resolution images of a target than the previous sensors.

A remote control system to operate manipulator arm by robot suit HAL, hybrid assisted limb, is examined for in-cell equipment maintenance application. In this integrated system operator wear exoskeletal structured HAL and movement and intention of operator are transferred through computer system to the slave type manipulator arm. The system provides position control scheme and bioelectrical signals control scheme. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of the system, we implemented remote handling experiments using mock up equipment and compared the performances of remote operation conducted by the abovementioned two schemes with that by 3D mouse control scheme. Among these three control schemes, bioelectrical signals control scheme had outperformed the others. Under the bioelectrical signals control scheme, the system achieved expected results in executing direct contact tasks of equipment maintenance with small operation time and small variation.

Future synchrotron light sources based on the energy-recovery linacs (ERLs) are expected to be capable of producing super-brilliant and/or ultra-short pulses of synchrotron radiation. Our Japanese collaboration team is making efforts for realizing an ERL-based hard X-ray source. We report recent progress in our R&D efforts.

Aizawa, Kosuke; Yui, Masahiro*; Hiramatsu, Takashi*

no journal, ,

We have developed under sodium viewer for sodium-cooled fast reactor. In particular, the receiving sensor and the transmission sensor has been developed. In addition, we have aimed a proficiency of an acoustic technology under sodium. Moreover, imaging experiments in the water and the sodium were conducted using the developed transmission and the developed receiving sensor. In this study, we will explain the developmental status.

no journal, ,

The development of safety protection system for JSFR is progressed in terms of logic circuits, selection of trip signals and its setting values for reactor trip. In addition, it is necessitated to evaluate the satisfaction for requirements of the safety protection system by safety analyses considering comprehensive parameter ranges. For this purpose, we will report the current status of the development focusing on the evaluation results for satisfaction of safety protection system based on safety standard choosing TOP type event as one of the examples.

Inspection in opaque liquid metal coolant is one of important issues for sodium-cooled fast reactors. To facilitate operations and maintenance activities, the under sodium viewer (USV) has been developed. JAEA works target practical use of the USV which adopts the optical receiving system. The optical receiving system measures the vibration displacement of diaphragm by using a laser as a receiving sensor. In this study, the experiments in water and in sodium focused on the improvement of elemental technology were conducted. From the experimental results, the controlling factor about the propagation behavior of sound pressure and the image reconstruction were investigated.
