Ne has been performed using the one-neutron removal reaction from
Ne. Based on an analysis of parallel momentum distributions, a level scheme with spin-parity assignments has been constructed for
Ne and the negative-parity states are identified for the first time. The measured partial cross sections and momentum distributions reveal a significant intruder p-wave strength providing evidence of the breakdown of the N = 20 and N = 28 shell gaps. Only a weak, possible f-wave strength was observed to bound final states. Large-scale shell-model calculations with different effective interactions do not reproduce the large p-wave and small f-wave strength observed experimentally, indicating an ongoing challenge for a complete theoretical description of the transition into the island of inversion along the Ne isotopic chain.

The MSP-ISP was replaced by a new Inter-Shot Processor based on the UNIX-OS of a workstation (UNIX-ISP) in 2005. The performance of UNIX-ISP is 2 times as high as that of the MSP-ISP in a stand-alone test using the data conversion program of the CXRS data. Thus we can expect the reduction of the processing time by the optimization of the total sequence. For the remote experiment, we have developed a system called RMSVR with which we can set discharge parameters from the remote site, and thereby the consistency of input parameters is checked. The high security of the remote experiment system is established by the certification and the encrypted communication based on ITBL. A verification test between a university and JAEA Naka indicates that the system using the HTTPS protocol is suitable for the remote experiment.

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency has been conducting study on thermochemical IS process for water splitting hydrogen production. Based on the test results and know-how obtained through the bench-scale test, a pilot test plant, which has a hydrogen production performance of 30 Nm/h, is being designed conceptually as the next step of the IS process development. In design of the IS pilot plant, it is important to make chemical reactors compact with high performance from the viewpoint of plant cost reduction. A new hydraulic analytical code has been developed for optimizing mixing performance of multi-phase flow involving chemical reactions especially in the Bunsen reactor. Preliminary analytical results obtained with above mentioned code, especially flow patterns induced by swirling flow agreed well with that measured by water experiments, which showed vortex breakdown pattern in a simplified Bunsen reactor.

Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute has been conducting study on thermochemical IS process for hydrogen production. A pilot test of IS process is under planning that covers four R&D subjects: (1) construction of a pilot test plant made of industrial materials and completion of hydrogen production test using electrically-heated helium gas as the process heat supplier, (2) development of analytical code system, (3) component tests to assist the hydrogen production test and also to improve the process performance for the commercial plant, (4) design study of HTTR-IS system.

The numerical methods and computational hardware of today allow for studies on multi-disciplinary simulations. We have been developing an "integrated numerical simulation system" to solve coupled simulation problems under meta-computing environments. The system aims to construct a competent coupler for carrying out multi-disciplinary simulations by allowing concurrent execution of arbitrary simulation codes on different computers in parallel. The effectiveness of this system infrastructure is illustrated through its applications to fluid-structure interactive problems.

The pablic acceptance of nuclear power plants operations requests information of status for the safety and ease. Previous technology in computational scinece is generarlly carried out the analysis as an uniform structure, although the plants are assembled by thousand of parts. The proposed approach is to develope assembled structural analysis and fluid/heat analyis in assembled structures under the natural and actual environmnet such as daily operation, small quakeing which does not induce shut down procedure, and so on.

In addition to achievement of the equivalent break-even condition (QDTeq up to 1.25) and a high fusion triple product = 1.5E21 m-3skeV, JT-60U has demonstrated the integrated performance of high confinement, high beta-N, full non-inductive current drive with a large fraction of bootstrap current in the reversed magnetic shear and in the high-beta-p ELMy H mode plasmas characterized by both internal and edge transport barriers. The key factors in optimizing these plasmas are profile and shape controls. As represented by discovery of various Internal Transport Barriers, JT-60/JT-60U has been emphasizing freedom and restriction of profiles in various confinement modes. JT-60U has demonstrated applicability of these high confinement modes to ITER and also clarified remaining issues.

The objective of the presented study is to develop a LC (Loose Coupling) simulation system implementing two commercial numerical simulation software packages linked by a library called MpCCI (Mesh-based paralle Code Coupling Interface). This library is an essential and a robust tool for carrying out interpolations of the physical variables (values) between different numerical models. We have programmed the MpCCI library into two commercial codes, Mecano and Star-CD, and implemented the developed LC simulation system on a distributed parallel computer by a MPMD (Multi Program Multi Data) parallel programming style. Numerical simulation results of an aneurysm diseased artery acquired by dynamic CSD (Computational Structure Dynamics) coupled transient CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) undergoing pulsation blood flow with the LC simulation system is presented which illustrate the mechanical behaviors of the arterial wall.
