Interlaboratory comparison studies are important for radiation dosimetry in order to demonstrate how the technique is universally available. The set of standard samples are examined in each participating laboratory in the present study. After a set of standard samples together with the samples with unknown doses, which were prepared in the same laboratory as the standard samples, are measured at a participating laboratory, those samples are sent to another participating laboratory for next measurement. There is some small difference observed in the sensitivity (the slope of the dose response line) of the standard samples while the differences in the obtained doses for the samples with unknown doses are rather systematic, implying that the difference is mostly due to the samples but not to measurements.

Degradation of hydroxymaleimide in 2-propanol by irradiation of energetic heavy ions, 2; N$$_{2}$$-saturated system

Nakagawa, Seiko*; Taguchi, Mitsumasa; Hirota, Koichi; Murakami, Takeshi*

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 79(8), p.890 - 893, 2010/08

 Times Cited Count:3 Percentile:24.08(Chemistry, Physical)

Hydroxymaleimide was irradiated in N$$_{2}$$-saturated 2-propanol solutions by high-energy heavy ions over a wide range of LET values. The differential G-values of the degradation of hydroxymaleimide by irradiation with the heavier ions were lower than those of the lighter ions for the same LET value. It was opposite result obtained in the air-saturated system. The degradation efficiency was 1.5 times higher, when the dose rate was 1/10 times lower. When irradiated at an LET value lower than 8 eV/nm, the G-values converged to a value less than that obtained by $$gamma$$-irradiation.

Degradation of hydroxymaleimide in 2-propanol by irradiation of energetic heavy ions, 1; Air-saturated system

Nakagawa, Seiko*; Taguchi, Mitsumasa; Ota, Nobuaki*; Hirota, Koichi

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 77(10-12), p.1230 - 1232, 2008/10

 Times Cited Count:4 Percentile:29.49(Chemistry, Physical)

Hydroxymaleimide was irradiated in air-saturated 2-propanol solution by high-energy heavy ions. The differential ${it G}$-values of the degradation of hydroxymaleimide was smaller than the ${it G}$-value obtained by $$gamma$$-irradiation, and decreased with increasing LET value for the same kind of ions. The fitting curve of the differential ${it G}$-values obtained for He ion is shifted from that for heavier ions. The irradiation effects of the kind and LET value of ions were observed on the degradation of hydroxymaleimide.

To estimate the external exposure dose using electron spin resonance technique, we use a "standard sample" which were prepared at each laboratory with each preparation protocol. It is necessary to unite the preparation protocol for the "real" standard sample. In the point of view of the enamel extraction method, no difference was observed for five dose responses between the absorbed dose and the CO$$_2$$ radical intensity.

This working group has been translating into Japanese the publication "Practical Guidance for Engagement with the Public on Radiation and Risk" by IRPA in 2020. This publication was made with the theme of public understanding, which was one of key issues that the consultation by IRPA to its member societies identified as most necessary in the radiation protection system. The translated guidance is supposed to be distributed to radiation protection experts and relevant communities in Japan who may be interested in public understanding. The purpose of this symposium is to share the working progress and important points of the guidance.

The WG has translated the "Practical Guidance for Engagement with the Public on Radiation and Risk" ("IRPA Guidance") issued by the International Radiation Protection Association ("IRPA") to its member societies in 2020. "The content of the IRPA guidance was presented at a symposium organized by the Health Physics Society of Japan in June 2020. The content of the IRPA guidance was presented at the Health Physics Society planning symposium held in June 2020, where many experts attended and provided feedback. In this planning session, we will focus on public engagement and related specific examples and situations related to public engagement.
