The information exchange meeting on HTGR and hydrogen production technology between Korea Atomic Energy research Institute (KAERI) and Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) was held in the Oarai Research and Development Center of JAEA on November 5th - 6th, 2015 based on the cooperative research program of the KAERI-JAEA implementation of "Development of HTGR and Nuclear Hydrogen Technology" under "The Implementation of Cooperative Program in the Field of Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy between KAERI and JAEA." In order to facilitate efficient technology development on the HTGR and nuclear hydrogen by the IS process, both sides mutually showed the present status and future plan of the research and development on the HTGR and nuclear hydrogen technology, respectively. This proceeding summarizes all materials of the presented technical discussions on the HTGR and hydrogen production technology based on the open documents as well as the meeting briefing including collaboration items.

A TPC has been developed for J-PARC E42 experiment to search for H-dibaryon in ($$K^-$$, $$K^+$$) reaction. An event with 2 $$pi^-$$ and 2 protons decaying from H-dibaryon is searched for inside the TPC. The TPC has octagonal prism shape drift volume with about 50 cm diameter with 55 cm drift length filled with Ar-CH$$_{4}$$ (90:10) gas. At the end of the drift volume, 3-layer GEMs are equipped. In order to analyze momenta of produced particles, the TPC is applied with 1 T dipole magnetic field parallel to the drift electric field with a superconducting Helmholz magnet. In order to maximize the acceptance of H-dibaryon events, a diamond target is installed inside the TPC drift volume, in a cylindrical hole opened from the top to the middle of the drift volume. Since extremely high-rate $$K^-$$ beam is directly injected into the TPC drift volume to the target, a gating grid and GEMs are adopted to suppress positive-ion feedback.

In order to prepare adequate current ramp-up and ramp-down scenarios for ITER, present experiments from several tokamaks have been analyzed by means of integrated modeling in view of determining relevant heat transport models for these operation phases. The results of these studies are presented and projections to ITER current ramp-up and ramp-down scenarios are done, focusing on the baseline inductive scenario (main heating plateau current of 15 MA). Various transport models have been tested by means of integrated modeling against experimental data from ASDEX Upgrade, C-Mod, DIII-D, JET and Tore Supra, including both Ohmic plasmas and discharges with additional heating/current drive. With using the most successful models, projections to the ITER current ramp-up and ramp-down phases are carried out. Though significant differences between models appear on the electron temperature prediction, the final q-profiles reached in the simulation are rather close.

A detailed elemental abundance analysis has been carried out for the very metal-poor ([Fe/H] = -2.7) star BS 16934-002, which was identified in our previous work as a star exhibiting large overabundances of Mg and Sc. A comparison of the abundance pattern of this star with that of the well-studied metal-poor star HD 122563 indicates excesses of O, Na, Mg, Al, and Sc in BS 16934-002. Of particular interest, no excess of C or N is found in this object, in contrast to CS 22949-037 and CS 29498-043, two previously known carbon-rich, extremely metal-poor stars with excesses of the $$alpha$$ elements. No established nucleosynthesis model exists that explains the observed abundancepattern. A supernova model, including mixing and fallback, assuming severe mass loss before explosion, is discussed as a candidate progenitor of BS 16934-002.
