Times Cited Count:2 Percentile:79.22(Astronomy & Astrophysics)Detailed -ray spectroscopy of the exotic neon isotope Ne has been performed using the one-neutron removal reaction from Ne. Based on an analysis of parallel momentum distributions, a level scheme with spin-parity assignments has been constructed for Ne and the negative-parity states are identified for the first time. The measured partial cross sections and momentum distributions reveal a significant intruder p-wave strength providing evidence of the breakdown of the N = 20 and N = 28 shell gaps. Only a weak, possible f-wave strength was observed to bound final states. Large-scale shell-model calculations with different effective interactions do not reproduce the large p-wave and small f-wave strength observed experimentally, indicating an ongoing challenge for a complete theoretical description of the transition into the island of inversion along the Ne isotopic chain.

Times Cited Count:0 Percentile:0.01(Environmental Sciences)State-of-the-art dose assessment models were applied to estimate doses to the population in urban areas contaminated by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. Assessment results were compared among five models, and comparisons of model predictions with actual measurements were also made. Assessments were performed using both probabilistic and deterministic approaches. Predicted dose distributions in indoor and outdoor workers from a probabilistic approach were in good agreement with the actual measurements. In addition, when the models were applied to assess the doses to a representative person, based on a concept suggested by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), it was evident that doses to the representative person obtained with a deterministic approach were always higher than those obtained with a probabilistic approach.

Although baryon resonances have been studied for a long time, our knowledge on their properties are still limited. Recently a Dynamical-Couple Channel (DCC) model shows there are significant contributions of reactions to these baryon resonances. However, there are only 240 thousand events of reaction data measured in 1970's. Thus, we proposed an experiment E45 to study baryon resonances in reaction utilizing Hz beams at J-PARC. We aim at clarifying most of baryon mass levels. We measure these reactions in a large acceptance Time Projection Chamber inside a Helmholtz dipole magnet. We will measure these reactions in small momentum steps over a large beam momentum range and perform partial wave analysis to extract properties of each resonance. In this presentation, we will show the experimental design, expected results in simulations, and the status of the detectors.

Times Cited Count:1 Percentile:6.68(Physics, Condensed Matter)We have investigated the effect of the field cooling on the exchange bias and the coercivity in an exchange-biased Fe/Cr(100) bilayer using SQUID magnetometer. After the field cooling, magnetization shifted upwards, indicative of surplus magnetic moments, which could be interpreted as an evidence of pinned and uncompensated Cr magnetic moments induced by the cooling field. Interestingly enough, we also discovered that not all the pinned and uncompensated spins seem to be involved in producing the exchange bias, although they contribute to increasing the coercivity and inducing the surplus magnetization.

Times Cited Count:6 Percentile:26.36(Physics, Applied)Epitaxial BaSrTiO thin films were prepared on Nb-doped SrTiO (100) substrates by the pulsed laser deposition technique and were studied by measuring the Ti 2p 3d resonant photoemission spectra in the valence-band region, both at room temperature and low temperature. The results demonstrated an abrupt variation in the spectral structures between 2.8 nm (7 ML) and 2.0 nm (5 ML) BaSrTiO films, suggesting that there exists a critical thickness for phase change in the range of 2.0-2.8 nm.

Times Cited Count:65 Percentile:90.14(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)The electronic structures of SrFeMoO (SFMO) and BaFeMoO (BFMO) double perovskites have been investigated using Fe 2p-3d resonant photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and the Cooper minimum in the Mo 4d photoionization cross section. The states close to the Fermi level are found to have a strongly mixed Mo–Fe t character, indicating that the Fe valence is far from pure 3+. The Fe 2p x-ray absorption spectroscopy spectra reveal the mixed-valent Fe –Fe configurations, and a larger Fe component for BFMO than for SFMO, suggesting an operative double exchange interaction. The valence-band PES spectra reveal good agreement with the local-spin-density-approximation (LSDA+U) calculation.
